Aquaph8's 225 Build

Brett! I cant believe i missed this build haha i just read it all and its pretty damn amazing and i will use it as an inspiration for my 180 build coming up soon. The tank itself is absolutely stunning! Awesome job! and like i said, as i will be using it as a reference for my build, be ready for some questions! hahaha subscribed!

Beautiful tank and interesting build thread, very impressive :)

I'm glad to hear the algae is on it's way out. I've struggled with a similar issue previously, and while it eventually corrected itself it was a pain to look at in the interim.

R.I.P dinos or dont R.I.P :uzi:
We are all just glad uv gone dinos :hammer:

Ha ha, I hope their done. Theres still traces here and there but the growth has seemed to stop.

That is good to hear! Looking forward to seeing some pics of the Muelleri when it comes in. :D

Thanks Mike. Im trying not to get my hopes up cause Ive been let down before. The Muelleri is my all time favorite fish so you can imagine how excited I am :spin1:

That's good news Bro!

Thanks Jon, I was dosing Hydrogen Peroxide 1ml per 10 gallons and it seemed to help. Maybe I can get things back on track now. I decided not to do any carbon dosing yet cause my nitrates and phosphates are still really low and dont seem to be a problem. Who knows maybe I wont need to.

Hi miguel, thanks a lot man. Anything I can help you with would be my pleasure, just let me know. Welcome aboard:beer:

Hi Ngoodermuth, whatever that stuff was my zoanthids and LPS didn't care for it. My SPS didn't seemed phased though. I lost my big colony of candy coral but everything else seems to be coming back now. Thanks for the nice comments.

NEW TOYS

Tyler at Elite Aquatics did an awesome job on my new ATO and two part reservoirs. I also picked up a few BRS dosers used. Im slowly getting this thing automated to make my life a little easier so I can have more time with the kids and less time on maintainence.

Well my black ocellaris clowns have been laying more and more eggs lately and Ive always wanted to try and raise some. I ordered some Rots today and I always have phyto going so here it goes. The last batch just hatched last night in the DT so Im gonna put a tile in there tonight and we'll see if they cooperate. Wish me luck, Ill let you all know how things work out.

That's just cool Brett!!Good luck raising the lil clowns :)
Do post some pics?
The reservoir and accessories look well built!
You gonna use the aqualifter pump for top up?
Do show how you set it up?

Cheers!

They started cleaning the tile today so maybe we'll get some eggs today. Ill post some pics if it happens. Yeah, Im using an aqualifter at the moment but may switch to a BRS ATO pump when funds allow. The ATO reservoir feeds the kalk reactor and the kalk reactor feeds the tank. Ill post some pics of the Two part set up when I get a chance.

Wow man...a lot has been going on! I had a little catching up to do here on your thread, sorry to hear about the loss and the battle with dino's. I had a mild case of it also which isolated itself to a couple spots, I siphoned it out with air-line tubing weekly and after about a month it seemed to burn itself out and never came back.

I also wanted to touch on the dosing subject...I highly recommend a calcium reactor on a tank your size. By the time you factor in the cost of bulk powders the time mixing it and refilling reservoirs, the cost of dosing pumps then the time spent calculating consumption to match your dosing values. You could fill a reactor with media add dolomite for magnesium, set your bubble count and drip rate and you're done.

I touch my reactor once every 6-8 months simply to refill it and recalibrate my ph probe. Running a Kalk reactor in tandem is the ultimate setup as you offset the slight PH drop which if the effluent is dripped into the skimmer intake chamber is negligible anyways.
I can go into more details and provide tips on the setup if you'd like, as it is a lot simpler than most make it out to be provided you have a decent regulator.

Congrats on the Mueller's btw...I hope you get it!!:)

Hey aquainas,
Its been a little while, how you been. The dino's are still here and there but getting better and better every week.

As far as the dosers Im a big fan of buying used stuff (mostly locally). I buy or trade for what comes up that I can use. I bought the dosers locally and plan to use them until a nice calcium reator pops up. This hobby has such a high turn over rate I can usually find just about anything if Im patient. Im loving the kalk reactor and the ultimate plan is to switch over to a calcium reactor from the two part as my needs increase. But I will need your help for sure when I go to set one up. Any tips on brand of reactor/regulator to look out for?

Im patiently waiting for that call that the Muelleri has arrived. I cant wait to see it in my tank. I have another guy in my QT right now that Ill share as soon as he lets me get a pic. Great hearing from you aquainas, how bout some updates on your tank?

I own a calcium reactor modeled after the GEO 618 setup with a dual stage regulator. The aquarium plants electronic regulator is about the best out there right now but the reef fanatic is very capable. A dual chamber setup is nice since it holds more media and allows residual CO2 to be used up essentially raising the effluent pH. A good quality needle valve will allow more precise injection for a stable and consistent bubble count.

I plan on a a 1 year update soon!

Amen brotha

I really think that's the key to the hobby. Don't get me wrong I love to tinker but the more automation, the better. Looking good Brett.

Viva La automation automation automation!
:D
Wish everything in life could be automated!!
Maybe a life controller. Imagine an SMS or email being sent to ur iPhone if your gf/wife cheats on you. Hope this system comes probeless though :D

hi Brett, I was wondering if you could tell me what size piping you used for your return, and also how your pump is workin out for you? The tank and setup is really nice and clean.

Thanks Dan,Ive always had Low PH, now with kalk and two part at the same time its high. I guess its time to switch to recipe 2. Other than that things are more stable than ever and corals are looking great.

My return is 1" split into two wavy seas. I love the water blaster pump, very quiet. I highly recommend one. Thanks for the nice comments, let me know if I can help you in another way.:D
