Aquaph8's 225 Build

wow Brett... just finished combing this massive thread. your tank looks ridiculously awesome. congratulations! (and sorry about your indigenous anthias)

i love the steel stand with magnetic panels idea: super clean looking when it's closed, super spacious when it's open. i also must admit i envy your silicone skillz... i had a tougher time getting my baffles put in than you, by the looks of it. i used a 40G breeder tank to build my sump so a lot of that trouble was caused by the frame being in the way when trying to get the baffles into place. Even dry-fitting the baffles first just meant I had more stuff in the way while I was trying to silicone everything. Mine works really well, but yours works well AND looks sweet...

nice job man. really nice job.

curious: do you still like the Ca reactor as much as when you started it up? i've been considering adopting one from a friend of mine...

I chickened out on the magnets cause I have small children and didn't want to risk them pulling the panels off. I ended up using pocket screws through the plywood. I cheated on the silicone, Im a construction worker and Ive used a lot of caulking in my time.

Im assuming your talking about the kalk reactor. I love it. For the first time ever, my PH isnt low. Thanks again for all the kind comments:D

Saaaweeet ATO's Brett. :D

What anthias would you recommend for my 450 display ? I'm thinking of two different species and about 10+ of each. Any thoughts ?

Awesome get. Can't wait to see the new addition!

Thanks Kenny

Sweet!! What else did you get?? How large is the hole you burnt through your wallet?:spin2::eek:

The hole is pretty shallow. The LFS owed me some store credit from a while back. My lips are sealed until its in my care.

Spill the beans!

Ill show you on Wednesday I hope. LOL Something always goes wrong with this fish for me Im not getting my hopes up. Its nothing really rare though.

Thanks Jim, thats such a tuff question especially when you give me a 450 gallon tank to work with. I like: Borbonius, Squares, Maldives lyretail anthias (the male lyretail and squares are both amazing). Im also a big fan of the carlberri and of course the purple queens. So far I dont think the queens are impossible but you do have to put in the time with them. They will eat pellets and can be auto fed but it takes some work. I also like the Sunset, but have never had them. Ventralis are also really cool if you run your water on the cooler side.

My advice would be to get all females and let them change sex on their own terms. Cant wait to see what you do. Im sure it will be stunning.

Thanks for the advice Brett. I know you are a big anthias fan and have done well with them. I'm also considering P. bimaculatus, P. pictilus, P. parvirostris & P. randall's . I'm thinking 3 species of all females and 7-9 each. I'm trying to get not so common species w/a nice variety of colors for that wow factor. :)

What do you think ?

Wats your current fish list Brett?
Are ya feeding frozen food to tank inhabitants?
How's the parameters holdin up?
I'm having an Alk drop in my tank so fixing it right now.
What's next on ur wishlist once uv hot ur long awaited dream fish :)

Respect the Caulk

apparently i need to check my RC posts more often! this is me responding like a week (plus) late...

i cheated on the silicone

Well it doesn't LOOK like you cheated... I've got a construction background too and my problem was mainly that the space between my baffles is too narrow to get a full-sized caulking tube all the way down, so I had to use the squeeze tubes and do the best I could with my big ol' paws.

So how exactly does one "cheat" with the silicone? After seeing my sexy new sump, two of my friends have asked me to help them make their own... Got any tips on how I can cheat too? Share thy secrets, I beseech thee!
