aquapod 24 questions

i have an older model aquapod 24 and the pc hood is dead. im thinking of starting it back up after a few years break and wanted to know about metal halides for it. main question on my mind about the halides and the tank. if i take the hood off and put the halides on it what would i need to do to the tank itself? how high up do i need to place the light? is there some sort of glass lid for these tanks? or could i make a lexan cover for the tank and maybe install some fans in that to help keep the water cool?
im wanting mostly a coral tank, some sps, lps, zoas, and softies mostly. any help is appreciated in advance

Id go the LED way rather than halides. When i had my ap i was partial to the hood. It also saved my fish a few times. Id hear a clunk, wondering what it was, till i figuered out it was one of my clowns jumping. I saw that folks were gutting out their biocube hoods and filling them up with leds. I was about to do the same to the ap hood but i upgraded to a diff tank(it was a great deal). But if your set on the lighting, i also saw some pics of a build where the guy made it rimless and had his fixture hanging over it.

i was thinking about that but keeping the black rim on it, making a lexan(plexiglass) insert to fit it and put some sort of fans on it to cool the water and let it breath too. not sure if im going to put fishes in it this time yet. mostly wanting corals and colorful ones at that

I have this exact tank and I'm using a 150W sunpod. I just took the hood off and put this over the top. The legs are a perfect match as they adjust. I don't have a cover or screen over the top but I haven't had any jumpers.

Do you know what happened to your hood? What died? I've worked on mine a few times and maybe could give some pointers

the lights died, the fans been replaced 3 times, and now the cover over the lights have cracked and broke away. not much left to save on the hood anymore. just trying to come up with someway to bring this tank back up and get it started again. would love to figure out how to put a small sump on it but not something i have to have on it

I bought it off my local forum but I've seen them available on craigslist. Just gotta keep an eye out for one to come around. Or post a want to buy ad or something...

I gutted my hood and installed panarama modules. I've been pretty happy with the results especially the lack of heat.

Here are a couple pictures. I have since added a panorama pro module. I guess I don't have pictures of that. I now have three Panorama modules and one of the old stunner strips. I'll see if I can snap another pic.

Yea, I don't blame you. For me though I didn't want to buy a chiller. Living here in the desert dealing with the additional heat added to the house from both the lights and the chiller was just not appealing.

i have a currant usa halide fixture i bought years ago. been thinking of putting it on theat tank and hoping i dont need anything special for the water. the house usually stays in the 70's year round here
