Aquarium Adventure Installation

Has anyone here had any experience with installations from the Aquarium Adventure store in Cleveland (Ridge Road)?
(I doubt it since you are all pros!!!!!)

What should I be prepared for? What should I ask? What should I check before the installer leaves?

Only a suggestion but. maybe if you were to ask on here there a surely several (Experienced) people that probably would be thrilled to help you set up your new system. It would be like Christmas all over again not to mention what you would learn from them.
 
i second old crusty. its never to late to call them back and say your not intrested. my thought is you would save alot of money doing it yourself and its hands on experience. i guarantee someone on here would be delighted to help you. there are some very knowledgable and experienced people on this sight. plus everbody on here is always willing to help in one way or another just my 2 cents.
 
i third that ,,,do it yourslef ,,,,,,,MUCH NEEDED EXPERIENCE ,,, and if something goes wrong fri nite at 11 pm ,,,no one from there is coming to help you ,,,do your homework , make it yourslef ,,,its much better ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I WOULD LOVE TO LEARN!!

And although I start with zero knowledge, (other than the months of reading I've done) I am a quick learner. One thing I know for a fact is that I have never done anything like this in the past.

The reason for going with a professional installer was "in case something went wrong". But your Friday Night at 11 is a very good point Murph. Plus, I didn't really think anyone would want to come to my house and help me out...even if I tried to lure them with Pizza and beer ;)

I am looking to add a reefkeeper 2 to the whole setup, although I have not purchased it yet. Any thoughts?
 
Hi,

I know you probably don't want to hear this but I would make one change. Go with a 120g RR tank. It will give you an extra six inches of width which would help when aquascaping your tank. I have a 75g and wish I had went for the 120g setup. When you start stacking your live rock in the 75g you will know what I mean. Just my 2c worth.

Have you been to salty critter? if your going to have a pro installation Dan would be much better at it than AA..
 
I also agree with all of the above ....AA is def on my S$%# List still waiting for my 40 breeder almost a month ...Plus doin it yourself makes you learn your system and how it Works......

Thanks for the suggestion Burman, but the tank and the stand are already purchased, so I can not change them.

I have not been to the Salty Critter yet. I bought the tank and stand at AA which is why I was going to have their guy install it. They are also holding 50lb of LR for me.

Vermilion seems far for a pro to come out from. Even more money. I am leaning towards seeking out help from members of this forum. I think Murph's point about knowing how to do things myself hits home. I think it would make me a better reefer in the long run.
 
agreed do it yourself, guys here will help.

you should go to vermillion just to see what healthy livestock and live rock looks like

AA is very good at growing algae i imagine their live rock also being covered in it.....

Aquarium Expenditure (Adventure) is owned by a guy who is CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP and he won't help anyone but himself (his brother isn't half bad), just ask his employees. I'm sure they do a nice set up but when it comes to help I would have my doubts. I prob shouldn't be commenting since I have never had them set it up for me. One thing I can tell you is I live very close and after I started out in SW he was opening. I tried to bring items (fish, coral) I had purchased from him for trades and he told me no trades, but I could "donate" the stuff to him (to sell for himself). I felt like I was dealing with a bad used car dealer. This is after I bought my entire smaller set up/fish and coral from him. I also got lots of bad advice that set me back a few times, until I found this site. I READ READ READ until I couldn't see and thats what helped. That and experience of doing myself, reading and trial and error.

AA is probably the worst store you can deal with being a new guy,
They already took too much of your money.
one key to success is knowledge. and were to shop for the biggest bang for your buck ! which takes you to salty critters front door. regardless of the drive which really is not bad at all, the benefits of the store outweigh the drive time tenfold. many times guys carpool out from your area. secondly the C-Sea club is an excellent source of knowledge and a great place to mingle with the Salt Water community of Northern Ohio.
 
shoot ,,,,, you give these guys on here access to alllllllllllll that suff i saw on your list ,,,they will never leave ,,,, the only thing you will have to do is mop up from all the footprints in your halls ,,,, im sure there is plenty enough folks to help you out ,,,they are cool like that on this site ,,,,,,,,, everything you could ever want to know is here somewhere !!!!

Christmas in February ,,,,,,,, with someone wallet other than theirs ?? you will make good friends , and end up with some nice frags when the time comes for corals ,,,,,

I'm fairly new and also setting up a 75 gal (upgrade my 55 gal). The best thing I did is went to Salty. So much better and not just trying to take your money. Research, talk with experinced reefers and take a trip to Salty or Aquatic Tech to see a real fish store. Do your set up your self it will help you understand what your doing because your going to need to rely on that expercince many more times, plus you will save money , which means more to spend on the tank.
 
NewSalt - I will definitely join the club. You are right, this next meeting will be just what I need. March 21st, is in my Crackberry.

Brad Black - Thank you. You are on my list now. Maybe we can get a couple of people to come at a time that is convenient and have a setup party.

Old Crusty - Looks like AA is 0 for 1000. No one likes them.... I really appreciate the candid remarks. Now I am afraid of using the 50 lb of LR they are holding for me. Would it be ok if I just "re-cure" it? I don't mind driving down to SaltyC. If it is the right thing to do, I'll do it.

Murph - thanks for the post and the PM. I will make sure that I am cautious and careful about the livestock I select. It's great to have so many people looking out for my best interest. I don't know if you are interested (or where you live) , but if you want to join the setup party, please let me know.

The same goes for anyone else (reefwidowed, oldreefer, newsalt1, disco, and anyone else). Now that I am thinking of it. If enough experience reefers come, we can invite newbies as well, and they can see the setup process somewhere else, before beginning their own setup. Just a thought.

Oh, and Akronviper - I will use the "setup" fund to get the ReefKeeper 2 (which has been recommended by several people, and looks like a nice, entry-level controller).
