Mind boggling that a degree with 3 yrs of experience would only get you 16 an hour.

You'd be surprised at what requires degrees nowadays. Take a gander around monster.com and the job listings on craigslist and I guarantee you'll be astonished by some of the pay rates coupled with the "experience necessary".

Honestly I was quite surprised at how high that was to start. I've heard horror stories about the pay that seaworld/disney pays their college educated dolphin trainers, etc.

I'm surprised they even value degrees as much anymore for jobs that don't really need it. I've seen more idiots with degrees than without.

can look at it two ways I guess..lol, a 4year ba is about as equal as a high school diploma was 10yrs ago in the job market. If you get in that lock type job young and manage to work your way up with experience than your set, however if I finish college and take the position it's taken someone 15yrs of experience to get...

15 years is a big stretch. Maybe 3 to 6 if even that. The only degree I can think of that can jump ahead of experience not counting medical would be engineering. Other than that, if the job doesn't require a degree to actually work, then a degree adds no value to working knowledge. Now I'm not counting medical degrees or engineering because most just don't learn that easily. Take for example, IT. Tell me any degree that can be accomplished that can jump ahead of any experienced IT person. (Not counting the idiot who has no ambition and no common sense lol).

I'm not dogging degrees because I went to college myself but in all reality, when people apply for similiar positions we are in, they do not make the same as someone with experience. And I've never seen anyone with a degree with no experience really outshine anyone.

With our positions, we just put 4 year degree or 4 years of experience are equivalent and require another 3 years of experience. However, it seems the ones we have hired do not have degrees at all and they are always the most qualified. Like I stated earlier, some fields just don't follow that suit but for the most part many do.
