Aquascaping large tanks

Can a few of you share your experience?

I plan on using some large rocks. It would be difficult to slowly lower them into a tank that is so deep. Did you add some water first to "lighten" the load? Can you get in the tank :)

You sure can! Think about it, youre tank is gonna hold a half a ton of water and a 1/4 ton of rock. Just disspearse your weight broad and even

i like having water in there so its easier to move rocks and they fall slower if theres water, and sand to help proctect the bottom when u get an avalanche! lol

dpends on higth of tank...i filled er up to 36"H(max reach w/o getting wet)....added the base structure....filled to the top 48"H....then placed the upper rocks

average weight for rock was 35-80lbs with a grand total of 1600lbs....no epoxy or rods and its see thru which made it a little tricky...couldnt go more than 2-3 rocks high....knock on wood nothings fallen over

Mike,

I'm moving (just down the street) and am setting up "something". Hopefully something like you have :) . However, I have had NO luck in finding ANY manufacturer that is interested in building a custom tank (maybe 72x30x27). I don't want to get into in on this thread, bc my thread asking questions about custom build experience was booted to the vendor experience forum. It does say on the sticky that this is not the place for that conversation, I just didn't see it. PM me and I'll give you a call.

Hey Sagi, I apologize as I meant to call you the other day and got slammed at work.

Its my experience that using rods really allows you defy gravity to make the most interesting aquascaping. Also, I do prefer to have the tank at least 3/4 full to lighten the load.

If the rocks are really big, an extra pair of hands is also a huge plus. Not only to lower rocks but to aid in placement. Judging distance in a larger tank is a little tricky especially if you are hovering over it.

J,

I'll try to give you a call tomorrow. I have some thoughts about aquascaping and would love you help. I really like what you did with your tank. It might effect rock I get.
