aquascaping with tools!

me and and Eric had talked about using nylon hangers , you can cut the bottoms off and have a 14-16 inch piece and on the two other top pieces that would be about 5-7 inches longs , no paint on them , 100 % completely nylon . and pretty darn strong too , very flexible too boot .

What could be worse than the wife coming home and finding you hammering away on her nice carpet with your new drill? Hope you were wearing safety glasses, Zach.

My wife likes it when I am hammering away on her carpet!!!!!!LOL

#1---first of all..I was just wondering, why did you bleach your rock?
#2---I was going to suggest the use if the plastic hangers(I only have heard of this a few times but don't know much about it)(my son was going to use these in setting up his 55gal. that we got from you)
#3---I want to add some base rock to my tank and was wondering that if you move or rearrange the aquascape.....are you leaching any of the harmful params. into the water either from rock wash or the disturbance of the substrate???

#1, some of it came from that 55 that had been neglected, I saw a couple of aptasia and figured I might as well cook the lot plus add a few rocks from my tank. For years I had a couple rocks with Hydroids, they never spread but I wanted them gone anyways.

#2, plastic hangers were an idea but wouldnt have been long enough for some of the taller structures

#3, Stirring up the sand can release a ton of baddies into the tank, I would be super careful with that. When I removed the sand my tank some of it actually stunk, whatever the smell was I'm sure the fish are happy I didnt just stir it up and leave it. I dont know if carbon would help but I would run some if your going to be stirring things up.

#4, How is the tank coming along? Sounds crazy but everytime I sell a fish or piece of equipment I ask for updates. I could never be a retailer, would always be wondering "so I wonder if that bulkhead work out?"

Hi,

There is a place in Akron on south Arlington Rd. called Universal Plastics. They sell all kinds of rods, tubes, sheets of acrylic.
I think they are only open during the week. ph: 330-645-6873.

I've used white fiberglass driveway markers with no ill effects for over a yr

Thanks for the info, I live fairly close to this place with acrylic, if they dont have exactly what I am looking for these orange rods are going in. Besides, if everything crashes maybe I could get in on a mass c-sea frag donation, hehe

How long do those rods have to be?
I was just going to get it into the rock an inch or so. Should it be all the way through it?

I guess it would depend on how much support you needed. If it was a small rock it wouldnt take much, but if you are supporting weight the more the better. It would also depend on how much epoxy you planned on using.

I got the acrylic rods today from Universal Plastics, three 6' 3/8" and one 6' 1/4" for just under $9.

The first pillar is in the tank.
