Aquascaping

Been too quite around here lately :)

Couple of questions. I plan on trying to add some very interesting and unique aquascaping to my tank. Plan on doing it right the first time so i don't have to redo it later. ;)

I plan on drilling and using nylon threaded rod to attach the rocks. And of course I will be playing around awhile until i get the look I want and good flow around the rocks.

So wouldn't this be easier with dry rock instead of live rock? If using Live rock don't you run the risk of killing it? Don't want to do that with the Live rock i have.

So I contacted Marco Rocks about getting some nice dry pieces. I'm looking to build a nice archway on one side of the tank. If anyone has any threads bookmarked or sites about building bigger rock scapes feel free to post... Wish me luck... :D

I'm going to agree with you on that one Nate. Very unique. The only problem with that kind of scape I see would be places to put corals. Once the rock overhang is full and leaving room for growth were would the remaing corals go? Can you place corals directly on the sandbed?

I have corals on my sand bed. I also have corals on rocks separate from my main rock work on the sand bed. If you want to maximize the place to put corals the classic "rock wall" is the best option. I just thought you were trying to do something more unique or artistic. It is hard to do both. FWIW I like the rock wall look and I always end up doing some variation of it for the same reason you expressed above.

I am trying to make it more artistic and unique but as you said hard to do both. I like the look and feel of the open aquarium. But this is for corals and would like many different varieties. So I'll have to comprise some were.

Adam's tank is a nice example. He has a ton of different frags, corals, clams in his display. If he didn't have all the rock in there I would think he would be hard pressed to have all his different ones.

Nate how is it I never got around to seeing your display? ;)

Nate I'll look thru those as well...

Here is a pic of some rocks I ordered today from Macro rocks. I figure with these rocks, what came with the tank and the bunch I got from DrBronx I should be all set.

Sweet rock buddy! How many pounds? how much did it cost? im wanting to redo some of the rock in my tank and that stuff looks awesome

I tell you what. I purchased it from Marc at macro rocks. Great guy to deal with. He went way out of his way for me. He hand picked my rock with ideas we had. Took pictures of them for my approval. There is just over 100lbs there.

I agree! That is some great looking rock! Everytime I see someone setting up a new tank, it makes me want to break down my system and just start over. Man I wish I had RC at my disposal when I was starting my tanks:) Awesome rock Neoz

3 boxes and the shipping was only $15 for Fed Ex. Can't go wrong there. Hope to have it by the weekend. So I can start playing with my scapes..

reefscape15 I'm thankful to have RC and the friendly knowledgeable members here to help me out. I would be totally lost!

Received my rock from Marco Rocks yesterday. They are unbelievable! The pictures don't do the rock justice. They are huge! I ordered 100lbs received 127lbs.

Can't wait to get aquascaping. I think somewere along the line I will need some smaller pieces for scaping pieces.. ;)

If you can find Tonga Branch anywhere, i'll be willing to purchase some with you if you wanted to split an order or anything. I've been looking for quite some time, and this guy just broke down a 37gal column that was filled with it, but he let someone else have it. Keep us all posted on here of what your plans are, and i'm sure someone would be more than willing to split an order with you if you want
