aquatraders odyssea tanks

So after my meltdown I thought about giving up and selling the tank and equipment. The honest truth is the fact that Jake was so willing to help it reminded me that starting over might be easier than I thought.

Now I have been researching a bigger tank and I was thinking about going to aquatraders in San Bruno this weekend to buy their 110G tank 47.5 x 22 x 23. Seems like a super deal at $389 for the tank and stand. Has dual overflows too.

Quality concerns me somewhat but I think I should be able to tell if the glass is thin and the silicone is crappy when I go see it.

Anyone have any opinions?

Reef ready 110 w/ dual overflows with stand for $389? Sounds like very good price. And as someone whose tank is only 16" front to back, I think 23"would allow for some much nicer aquascaping.

I think you can use your common sense there. My 100g has 1/2" thick glass. If that tank's glass is thinner, walk away. If the glass is heavily scratched, walk away. If the silicone is crumbly or peeling, walk away. You might examine the area around the tank for salt creep which could indicate a leak. Also consider asking about any leaks into the overflows.

LOL no salt creep as it is a brand new tank... So the silicone shouldn't be flaky either...

Guess that leaves glass thickness and build quality..

I checked their website and am not too impressed. I recommend that you inspect it closely. Neptune also carry nice tanks so give them a look.

Well the 100G was 3/8" glass. the problem for me was that it was set up as a peninsula tank. They had a 200G with dual corner overflows but that was $900 which was out of my price range but a cool tank.

Anyway, keep your eyes out for me.

There are lots of used tanks for sales, so keep your eye open. If I see one in the Bay area reefer forum I'll let you know.

I would stay far clear of Aquatraders unless something has changed recently. It has always had very bad reputation around the area. I went into the store once and would never, ever go back again even though it is right around the corner from me.

I would highly recommend doing a search on RC or even some other research on their products before considering it.

I need to get a new blade. The last one I had just broke yesterday when I was fragging up some chalices. All going generally well with the tank. Just set up a new frag tank as well.

I am surprise the blade lasted this long, one of these day after you get a new blade I'll make a trip over there and check out your new frag set up and maybe even attend one of the meeting I have been slacking off because I am very busy these days. My tank is coming along ok, not at the level it once was but soon it will be. In the mean time am mostly doing lps, softies and some sps.

I saw that 210G but I might have to brace my floor and it has some defects and maybe a scratch on the front panel.

Good price but not if I have to brace my floor.

Ken, you know you got a frag coming your way bud. What kind of diamond blade do you have? I've used a dremel saw b4 and it doesn't work very well. The band saw that Bryan has is a wet bandsaw and it has 100% survival rate on chalice.

someone in sac had a aquatraders tank and it broke and lost everything...it was the younger kid on the Sac forum. I'll admit i do buy some cheap powerheads from them but just for mixing water but nothing important in case it breaks. just my 2 cents. Good luck owen....i know the feeling.

Tom, it's the Inland saw they sell at BRS. Wet, diamond blade band saw. I've used it to cut both chalice and acan frags and it's awesome with both the cleanness of the cuts and survivability of the frags afterwards.

Ken, Supper cool that was what am talking about. Ok let frag it up. I need money to buy new corals and you get a frag of the bazooka joe among other corals we can frag up I also have the supper rare Darthmaul that we can frag up I wonder what the trade value for that coral would be. My place or yours?
