Aquatronica

I meant that BNC would not work on AQ even if they made an adapter becaues it uses 4 wires and not two.

BTW I find the 5 week cleaning acceptable, I read on this forum that people are cleaning there probes much more often than 5 weeks, I think most would say that 5 weeks is a long time by most standards. As for everything in the Tank needing Maint every 5 weeks, LOL I have to clean down just about every part every 4 weeks anyway!! Pumps, Lights, Protien skimmer motor, you name it after 4 weeks it needs to be scraped and cleaned.

That's why I'd love to see some shots of your tank; it must be the cleanest tank around. BTW are you still having problems with those Aquatronica probes even with your cleaning regiment?

Update#2
I have now added about 3 Gallons of Ro Water and the Salinity on my Seachem (Swing Arm Float Unit) unit has reached into scale so I can do a reading. It is saying 1.028 but the strange thing is the Aquatronica is saying 1.41 !!! At this point something must be wrong with the AQ reading, so I am going down to the ocean later to get some water and do a reading on that, I have found the sea water around here to almost always be about 1.025 - 1.026 So at least that will give me an idea as to what is going on. I am trying hard to resist the temptation to buy a Refractometer but they are just so expensive I cannot justify the expense when the AQ should be doing the same job.

Moneypit :) why do you think my Tank is the cleanest around LOL many people on this forum do the same kind of cleaning routine every month.

Hey all,

Just wanted to post and get in on the Aquatronica thread...I just bought mine last week and it should be delivered today! Cant wait to start playing with it. I got a great deal from AO and Will was great on emailing me back whenever I had questions about the order!

I own a Refractometer and wouldn't be without it. Having something to reference with is a must IMO. You should be able to find one for around $50 that is half decent.

I would not trust a swing arm use a refractometer. Swing arms are notoriasly wrong very wrong. as for the AQT who knows that is why I am sticking to my refractometer it takes 5 seconds to check salinity and it is pretty cheap too.

Welcome to the Club :) You will have a load of fun with this unit,
I suggest you set it up first in a bucket of SW and use a few desk top lamps on the power bar. Play with it and get the feel for how to program it for a few days before you hook it up to your tank.

Nick & Pysire can you guys recommend a good refractometer?

Man this hobby is sucking my wallet dry, I have spent about $150 just this week alone. My wife is getting very suspicious of every new piece of equipment she see's, it's all getting to be too much to hide LOL If I get the Refractometer I will have to do the hide it till my birthday has passed or she is going to have a fit.

Thanks RobbyG. I cant wait to start playing with it. I was planning on playing with it for a few days before I connect it to my tank but now that I think about it, I cant hurt my tank much anyways because its cycling and I do not have any chillers or reactors to connect to it so we'll see what happens.

This is an excellent refractometer Robby. I just purchased it for my first saltwater tank and it works great!

RobbyG, I was thinking about how much you have to pay for customs, would you still have to pay if someone mailed you a gift?

Hey everyone,

I know you have to "break in" your probes for 4-5 days by letting them sit in your tank before you calibrate them but should the probes be connected to the controller while they are "breaking in"? And does the temp probe have to be broken in? And how do you calibrate the temp probe?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the dealy Moneypit the forum seemed to be all messed up yesterday.

Customs charges duty on anything, even if it is a Gift, but they do allow some discretion of the officer involved and if they believe you that it is a gift they can waiver the duty, if they don't feel like it they charge you based on your receipt and if you have no receipt they find the price on the Internet. BTW if you give them a false receipt and they find the prices are false,, it's like a $5,000 US Fine.

A little off topic, but does the search feature work for you better because you are a supporter of RC? I'll pay the money if it means I can actually do a search when I want and not just at 1 in the morning.
BTW my Elos controller should be here in about 12 days. I'm doing the co]unt down. I'm thinking about buying the Elos 4000 skimmer as well. The Iwaki 100 is so loud and the 395 watts an hour is adding a lot of heat to the tank not to mention what it's doing to the electricity bill.

MoneyPit,

Can't wait to read your impressions of and experience with the ELOS controller. I downloaded their catalog yesterday and their products look awesome.

Please keep us apprised.

Thanks,
GLD

Re access to searching, etc., I think that "Premium Members" who pay RC an annual fee receive priority access to the RC search engine.

Interesting question, I guess most of us leave the probes plugged in but I have no idea if it makes a difference with some of the probes like pH but I think it would make a difference with Salinity probe. If I was you I would plug them all in.
The Temp probe does not need breaking in, but it is the hardest to calibrate because you need a reference temperature and it can't be boiling or freezing point.

99% it works great for me sometimes I can't but I just wait 5 min. Totaly worth it.
