Aqueon glass tanks any good?

Why do people prefer acrylic aquariums over glass? They cost more, are more prone to damage (but the damage can be repaired in some situations if it's outside the tank) but are also easier to damage than glass. It's like the only real advantage is weight and the ability to make custom shapes (which is why many use acrylic sumps, which are also horrendously overpriced).

Unless buying from a pet store, it’s not my experience that a 225 g tank of glass is cheaper than acrylic.

Are you comparing a purchased glass tank to a DIY acrylic? A purchased acrylic tank isn't saving you anything in my experience.

They're usually on sale for $1 a gallon at national pet stores, only reason to buy them.

The $1 a gallon sale is usually for small tanks (under 40g)

I've been using acrylic tanks since 1991 and I'd never go back to glass! I still have 3 (100-130g) tanks that are ~20 years old and can still "˜buff out' like new!

Well I’ve been quoted from glass tank mfgs and acrylic and acrylic is about $1000 cheaper and a helluva lot less for shipping

The main reason for the price difference is likely the insurance: Glass tanks are statistically more likely to have catastrophic failures.
Though if I would go with a large "in-wall" tank I would do it the way it is done in public aquaria: a fiberglass (or even concrete) "tub" with an acrylic front. I mean, why spend a load of money for thick acrylic on all the sides you will never look through and which you likely want to have opaque anyway?
