Aqueon Heater Garbage

Hello All,

I'm sure most of you are aware that Aqueon is not the best brand. This thread is not targeted towards you.

For those of you who are choosing equipment for an upcoming build, new to the hobby, or just cheap like me, let me advise that you avoid Aqueon heaters like the plague.

I can't speak for the pro (electronic thermostat) versions. However, the element type heaters are trash. I had mine fewer than 6 weeks and it failed. It was making a popping noise, bubbles were coming out of it and my candy cane coral was acting very strange.

Needless to say, I won't trust any Aqueon heater again. I was able to snag a Fluval from my LFS and have ordered a Cobalt electronic heater so I can use the Fluval as my backup heater in case of emergency.

Lesson learned, don't cheap out on a heater!!! :deadhorse:

Yeah, I have a couple small regular Aqueons that I use only for mixing water. They work so-so, but I won't use them in a tank. The pro version ones are better, but Eheim jagers are one of the best, IMO. Not only are they fairly inexpensive, but they are very reliable. I've owned several and have yet to have any issues.

I have a couple of their 50watt heaters. So far so good at 1 1/2 years. I do have them on a controller though.

The Aqueon pros I have for my new tank have been doing pretty great.. *knocks on wood* Haven't had any mishaps yet but I also use the Apex to control them.

Eheims are the standard, I've never had any reason to buy anything else. I've got about eight of them. Pretty much everything that company makes is bulletproof.

Finnex titanium on a controller, rock solid and bullet proof. 'nuff said.

I have one in a FW tank for over 5 years now, 0 issues.

I'll probably jinx myself for saying this but I've got a number of the regular and Pro Aqueon heaters for years now and they work perfectly. The Pro ones come with a lifetime warranty also.

I bought two of those 10 gallon kits for my kids rooms. The heater on one failed ON after about two months; the other I still use to this day. Go figure! I think if you really value what's in the tank, get a better heater. Cheap in the grand scheme of things.

I purchase a couple Aqueon 100 watt heaters(relatively inexpensive, you get what you pay for),one still works. Two Marineland heaters of the same price range also have failed within 2 years from purchase. If ever I notice stray voltage I usually trace it to heaters.
