Aqueon Model 3 sump - fuge in return section?

I have a model 3 aqueon sump and its tight on space under my 92g corner tank. Right now I have the fuge in the middle section and skimmer/return in the 3rd chamber. The problem with this is that I get a lot of micro bubbles unless I use a sponge on my mag which restricts its flow. So I am thinking of putting the skimmer in the middle chamber and then sectioning off the return with some egg crate so the chaetomorpha doesnt get sucked into the return line. I dont have any rock/substrate in my fuge, just chaeto.

Anyone foresee any problems with this or am I good to go?

I have the model 4. I guess that would work, but the fuge section was meant to be in the middle for this sump. The water should flow and filter through the fuge before hitting the skimmer and return IMO. Also, the cover on top of the middle section has a opening so you can mount a light for the fuge. I use a mini Coralife mini Aqualight which fits perfect. I guess you can clamp on a light in third section for your fuge, but I don't think it is as effective. Won't the skimmer be to tall or wide for the middle section?

Lastly, fuge and return in same section, I would expect some unwanted stuff going into the DT from your return especially if your not using a filter sponge for your mag.

Best of luck. Hope it works out.

I would just remove the top cover and use a different lighting fixture, that wont be a problem at all. I think if I seperate that return chamber with egg crate there wont be anything making it up to the DT is my hope. I just have chaeto thats it, and some pods which dont mind those going up of course :) Skimmer will fit in the middle section just barely

Another option is to have the skimmer output into the slot above the blue sponge in the Proflex. If the water level is too high in the return chamber you could put a piece of acrylic to raise the opening so the water is forced through the sponge.
