Find the guy that sold it to me and throw it at him. lol. jk I'm going to try and return it to amazon. I paid $90 for it. At the Aquaium store they want $159.99that's why I didn't buy it there. I ordered the Mag 7 online too for 74.99 brand new. I got it shipped next day for under $100. I still beat there price. Aquaium store wants 119.99. I can't believe how much of a profit they make off of one things. That's Crazy. I found my Proflex sump on Amazon for $200. The store wants $399.99. Holy Crap is what I said.

lol that would be funny. Your lfs seems pricey. I get all my stuff from bulk reef supply in group buys they have really good prices. I didnt realize amazon had that good of deals. i have never bought from amazon before. ill have to check them out for future buys.

Hmm i have never thought of this or seen anyone do this. I am assuming you are not using the middle chamber as the refugium?

Looks great man I gotta get mine up and going yet. What all do you have in it and what light did you use I am looking for on. Did you put egg crate on top of it to control the growth?
I got about 2 to 3 inches of live sand and LR. 2 pints of macroalgae (mixed caulerpa, ulva, chaeto, & assorted red algae).

Hey everyone, glad I found this thread! Thanks for all the info, suggestions and pics.
I just picked up a model 1 for my 50g that I have not set up yet. When I set it up, I'm swapping out my uniquarium (Sea Clear System II) for a regular 50 that I'm currently modding to slot out the back at the top and I'm building an external overflow box that I'm going to attach from behind.
After looking at tons of sumps and DIY threads, I couldn't let go of the concept of the Proflex. Picked the Model 1 because it fits under my stand (dims are 36"X15"). It's small enough as it is, so I'm intending to run everything externally (return pump, HOB Remora skimmer, etc). Even so, the sump does not seems to have much capacity for backflow.
My biggest concern is the amount of overflow the Model 1 will be able to handle at shutoff. Based on my rough calculations (based on dimensions, since I have not put a drop of water in it yet), the third chamber can hold about 4.5 gallons. Subtract about 3" for necessary running volume, and that leaves about 3.5 gallons for backflow which is a nerve-racking narrow margin.
Have any of you figured out the actual backflow capacity for the model 1? TIA.

Hello EuroDriver and welcome to Reef Central, good to have you aboard. Now as far as back flow I have never personally measured the amount that goes back into the sump. I do use the sticker to make sure if the power goes out the sump wont overflow. So when i fill with top off the water never fills up past the sticker. I wouldnt be that concerned about it. I think once you get it plumbed and filled we will have a better idea how much backflows and be able to help you out more.

Thanks for the greeting and the response, MrGoodbar! You are probably correct, but I'm just trying to figure out volume parameters with the most certainty available before I take the drill to my tank, lol! I had the pieces for my overflow cut today, so the dims are 18"LX4.5"WX6"H. As such the total capacity (of the box) will be 2 gallons. Sump should be able to handle that, so now I just have to see how much backflow I'll get from the DT and the plumbing - I just hope it leaves some margin for error...It's going to be my first sump setup so I'm a little edgy about it.

I would say mine only back flows about 1 or 2 gallons max. You gotta remember tho it's not just the third chamber that fills up it will rise up and fill all 3 chambers so that will give you more space for back flow. When you fill the sump only fill each chamber with the min amount of water to get it working and then cut all power and see how much it fills up. Then you will know how much more water to add to the system and still be safe.
