Here are some pics I took of "The Grump" He is a character and is a fantastic photo subject because he loves to pose... I am a MAJOR amature with the camera. I took these with my wife's Cannon Powersht G3. Let me know what you think!

Very nice! I happened to take a picture of my Arc Eye tonight when I was trying to get a picture of the tort. He loves to balance on his fins between these two coral branches.

The thing I like about the Arc Eye is that they do not seem to by psychotic crab eaters like other hawkfish are. He is actually pretty mellow (as long as no one invades his space...).

Wow, I've seen a lot of Arc Eyes come through my LFS, but never one with colors like that on its face...gorgeous pictures!

Brooks,

It was your second picture (I saw it in teh Nano forum) that inspired me look for one in the lfs but the one I saw in NJ yesterday was was any where close in beaty to yours. Thanks for your post.

I am guessing that the coloration has a lot to do with age. For such a groovy fish, I have not found a lot written about it. Justjoe's picture appears to be a more mature specimen. There is more yellow and less Red/blue. It is also more pink than the light green mine is. The bands on the operculum are also broken insted of the three distinct lines. Anyone know if there are regional differences between Arc Eyes? Is it an age thing or if they were collected in different areas? Hmmmm, maybe someone in a different part of reefcentral might know. I'd be interested to know.

That is one cool hawkfish! Are different types of hawkfish compatible?? Can he live in peace with a long nose hawkfish?

I don't know if they can live together. I like Hawks so much I have thought of having more once I upgrade to a bigger tank. Here is another pic of "The Grump".

Brooks,

Where did you get your arc eye from? Was it mail order or from lfs? I've been looking around since I saw your post but they just don't come close to the yours.

I don't know about other arc eyes but the Hawaii Arc Eye Hawk fish has 2 color phases red with a white stripe on the side toward the back and gray with no white stripe. the lightning "U" will always appear above the eye.

I got it from my LFS. I will try to find out where they got it. I lucked out with this fish. It was a birthday present. (NEVER give fish as presents!!) It just worked out this time. :)
