Arc fault breakers are recommended also as a protection on continues loads. Reason is fires start from equipment arcing. The electrical arcs can create temperatures above 2000 degrees therefore starting fires. Keep in mind your regular circuit breakers protect you only against a large overload NOT ARCHING. Two years ago NEC (National Electrical Code) made it mandatory for new installations in residential dwelings to have arc fault breakers feeding bedrooms.
