seeing as there have been a few people complaning about cleaner shrimp attacking their clams i want to know are cleaner shrimp safe with a clam, not safe with a clam or does it depend on the individual shrimp. i would also like to know what other shrimp are compadable with clams.

My cleaner shrimp is always picking on my gigas clam, it will pick on the same area till it turns white and receads into the shell in that area. I rotate the clam once a week to let it heal and the shrimp will pick a new area. I've tried to get the shrimp out with no luck yet. Any have a loinfish I can rent?

This is after a cleaner shrimp attack. It's about 90% recovered now. My fire shrimp never touched it. I got a cleaner shrimp and the next week it was picking. Luckily, I was able to get it out in time.

I personally must have mutant killer cleaner shrimps. I learned the hard way that for some reason, some cleaner shrimp have the propensity to pick at my clams until the clam retracts to a point where they are eventually stressed to death. I lost two nice clams to them and was so mad that basically had to almost tear my entire tank apart to catch the four shrimps that were in my tank. Let's just say my shrimp tasted good!

I say it depends. Some will pick all day at clams, lps, and zoos and others will be good little citizens.

are we talking about the skunk cleaner shrimps? Mine is very boring, it does absolutely nothing except during feeding time and when i clean the tank, it comes and clean my hand!

Next time you need to remove a cleaner shrimp try using a syphon with a 3/4" or larger dia. tube.

I just get close to the shrimp with my hand covering the syphon ~ when its close enough I open my hand to let the tube suck it down into a bucket.

The skunk shrimp would disturb the clam when the clam is stressed. And the clam would soon die. If the shrimp is not around then maybe the clam would recover! The same goes to fishes that keep pecking on clams!

My problem with my cleaner shrimp is solved now. I lost a carpet anemone to a powerhead and my saddle clownfish has decided that my gigas is its new host and won't let the shrimp in it any more.
