Are Clownfish stupid?

Usually confused...
No flaming!!!

I have been having a fun week trying to move all my fish from the 55 gallon I am slowly breaking down to the 155 I am slowly starting. I didn't use traps, because I wanted to add the fish in a specific order to let them get their own territories established. It was interesting to see how difficult it was to catch each particular fish.

Keep in mind, these are all fish I have had between 2-6 years, who "know" me well(as well as fish know anybody-they see me as the giver of food) and rush to the edge of the tank when they see me.

Catching each fish and critter was completely different. Firefish was the adventure I expected. They don't call them dartfish for nothing. I specifically did not want any rock, water (or pests) from the 55 going into the 155 so I just moved the fish's dart rock into a 5 gallon buck filled with old tank water, waited for it to come back out, then pulled the rock out. Much smaller area, but still a VERY high speed chase to catch that fish! Got very dizzy watching that little fish do high-speed laps around and around that 5-gallon bucket. Imagine the Indy 500 at warp speed!

Worst catch was the Bi-Color blenny. Almost 2 hours, pulled out every rock, finally cornered it out of sheer exhaustion I think. I almost gave up because I was worried about stressing him out too much. Once acclimated, he went to the bottom of the tank and just laid there. I was really worried about him, but after about 10 minutes, he was back to his cheerful, playful self, checking out his new, much bigger playground!

Clowns were the last to move. I was kind of worried, because every time I clean the tank, my hands get attacked. They had seen every one of their tank mates leave the tank. All three, as soon as my hand entered the tank started running away, ran right into a corner, froze there, and was easily caught. Took less than a minute each...

Only thing easier were the shrimp, who each said, "oh, look! he's letting us clean his hand again!" and climbed right on!"

Clowns are dumb. I have been able to scoop my up in a baby food jar. The same jar i mix their food in. They think its feeding time and swim right in.

When I wanted to catch my clowns all I did was turn off the lights and it was like they went blind cause they just sat there.

You guys are being really mean to clowns. I'm going to organize a protest in front of AZBJ's house to ensure that clowns are treated with greater respect. Besides, everyone knows that wrasses are the dumbest fish.

lol, mine seem to be a bit more intelligent as far as not getting caught, when trying to catch my evil goby to move to the fuge the clows were the first to go hige under the arch in the rock work. The firefish stayed out for the most part but hey do dissapear in less than the blink of an eye.

I would definitely think it would be easier to try and catch them at night, right now mine sleep at the top of the tank so I could scoop them out after lights out if I needed to.

I always thought it was because the majority were captive bred and captive raised, but now that I have some experience with wild clowns and other species of captive bred fish I think it's just clowns. Not so much stupid, but very trusting.

First they're stupid. Now they're naive. I'm calling the EEOC to have them investigate your obvious bigotry against the poor clown fish. I'm very offended.

lmao, they are definitely friendly and adventurous. Just wish mine would pair with my BTA already.
