Are clowns daredevils?

Will my tomato clown jump out of my 20H? Other inhabitants: yellowtail damsel and four-stripe damsel (planning to remove the four-stripe soon). I don't recall actually reading an account of a clown that went hardwood surfing, but I wanted to get an opinion.

Also, if my tomato is about 1.5" now (had him roughly 10 months), how long before the 20 gallon tank is not a suitable home for him spatially?

Thanks

Funny you should ask, when I went to bed last night I heard a big splash (tank is in my room) and then a thump on the floor. When I got up to look, there was my 5" female akindynos lying on the carpet. The tank top is (was ;)) partially open, and she needed to clear 5" to get out, but she did it. I don't know what spooked her, but I'm glad I was home when it happened.

So yes, clowns can and will jump, and considering how large frenatus can get, I wouldn't chance it.

Huh? Clownfish jump? I'm running my tanks topless to facilitate cooling. I didn't know that this could be an issue.

It seems my tomatoes spend most of their time hiding under that the BTA attached to. It's hard to imagine that they would be interested in jumping.

They are.

Use egg crate to cover your tank. Light goes through, gas exchange isn't hindered, and it doesn't slow down evaporative cooling.

Any fish can jump if the conditions are right. Ive never kept a top on my tank though. Ive only lost a firefish. One time I was pulling my hand out of my tank and my Fire clown launched at me to bite me. Well he missed and shot out of the water and landed on the floor. Your 20g should be ok for another 6 months to a year.

More often than not.

Yes, they do jump, keep the covers on.

I just learned this the hard way :( My 4 yo Clarkii jumped out of my tank Saturday night. My tank is usually covered for my some of my other "known" jumpers, but I left a small section open on the back side of my tank (working on a bracket for a WavySea) and...Murphy's Law.

I can speak of my black ocellaris, who is now named "Blackout" for the many time he has jumped out of the tank. Once, he must have been carpet surfing for about 30 minutes and it took me about 20 minutes to revive him, two days to swim normally again. I dont know of a clown jumpoing just for fun, but I banned a wrasse because of his aggression towards my clowns. Clowns normally jump to avoid a threat so I would look to that before rushing to buy a canopy. I have had no jumoing since that wrasse was booted.

Eggcrate with a brick on top.

Yes, if things mean to go wrong, they will.
