Are fresh water crabs an ok food source?

Can't afford to keep feeding Bruno Emerald Crabs and I think he's leaving the hermits and turbos alone because they are too little meat for too much effort... so I picked up a tropical crab and chucked that in. Crab was fine for a few hours until it was eaten.

Worrying a bit now though as it is not his normal food type... any thoughts?

Not good as a long term food source, different biochemistry. Only needs 1-3 hard shelled prey items a month. Try astrea snails, much cheaper, also blue leg hermits. They'll eat those if there's nothing else.

may i recommend frozen krill? they are much cheaper than even freshwater crabs, and a natural saltwater foodsource.
