Are nuvo 16's still cracking?

I have heard they crack because of the thin glass and the rounded corners. I had just traded a mp10 for this tank and had it a week and I guess luckily had not had the time to set it up and was shocked to see it had cracked for no reason.

So i just came across this thread and searched for more. Seems like this happens to IM tanks more often then they should? For me, even hearing one story of 16-24 gallons of water spilling everywhere is enough to deter me from wanting the tank.

As it would be my first salt aquarium, i thought it would be easier then not using an all in one.

Any words to persuade me otherwise?

I have one and have no issues.

There is no excuse for tanks breaking but its hard to tell if this is a real issue or not. Statistically, no one has done a proper count of the defect rate etc...

Also from what I read, many of the breaks have been with tanks using vortech powerheads which shouldn't happen but the combo of a Nuvo and a Vortech should be avoided in my opinion.

For the example of a tank breaking without water in it - I would not be concerned about that at all. Thats clearly not a water pressure etc... Glass doesn't jsut self-combust so something triggered it - possibly moving it days before / shipping etc...

I guess some would say it better safe than sorry but I think its a great tank from my experiences.

Ok thanks, maybe ill go for it, I was planning on getting a hydor koralia powerhead but maybe I'll just go with an upgraded pump?

Edit: also what size is your tank?

Are nuvo 16's still cracking?

Nuvo 16 + MP10. Everything good.

It's peculiar though, that the guy on the last page had his tank crack on him sitting empty, but it looks like the tank was up and running for quite some time at one point, judging by the calcification on the back glass.

What I'm getting at is that maybe these tanks (the ones that crack) have been mishandled? The tank is small enough for one guy to handle it, but it's still heavy and an awkward load.

I almost dropped mine in the driveway while I was rinsing it out. Just a thought that it's possible no manufacturer defects even exist.

Admittedly, I have not read this whole thread so apologies if I missed something.

I just purchased my Nuvo 16 and have had it up and running now for a week, so far so good. I do know there are GEN1 and GEN2 models out there from all the research I did before I purchased my Nuvo but not sure what the build date cut off is for each...hopefully the tank cracking issues are on the older GEN1 models and not the newer GEN2s.

100% stock nuvo 16 .. no powerheads. Wife heard a noise and tank was leaking out. 6 months old. Will do a full review with pics soon. Happened last night.

My Nuvo 16 just cracked top to bottom in the front right corner. I've had it 6 months and babied it. Never let anyone touch it or get close to it. So heartbroken to come home to a tank with no water. I'm still cleaning up the mess. The failure rate is way too high to trust this brand. Just like you don't see everyone who hasn't had a problem post, you don't see all the failures post either because you can't see across all forums, people who don't post etc... Flying is extremely safe, but if I told you that the plane you were about to get on crashes 1000 times more often than all the other planes, would you feel comfortable boarding it? I loved the tank until this point and the company assured me that the thicker glass would prevent this. Nobody was home when this happened. Who knows how many hundreds of dollars this will cost me.

Sorry to hear man. Same thing happened to me, post before yours. Luckily we were home. Innovative Marine needs to investigate this.

If they are going to replace mine, I'm going to ask for the Fusion 20 instead. It's $50 cheaper, so maybe they'll do it. I will NOT run a Nuvo ever again.

I got a replacement but didn't use it myself either. Keep in mind, took 1 month to get my replacement. A shipment had to arrive from China

I'm very happy with the resolution from IM. I posted this is another thread.

Update: Innovative Marine has been so exceptional to work with. Thanks to Randy at ARC, he has worked out a deal with them to get my tank replaced with a Fusion 20. He's letting me take one of his in stock tanks now and IM will replace it for him in the next shipment. It sounds like both of them are doing me a favor to get me the different tank, so I really appreciate that. IM has been outstanding though, very professional and apologetic.

Well I was excited about this tank. Getting back into the hobby. After everything I have read in this thread though I think I am going to stay away from this one.

Nuvo 16 owner here, sorry to hear about your tank. Do you know if your Nuvo tank was a GEN1 or GEN2? Usually you can tell by the serial number, or if you don't know you can paste your serial here and I'll help you figure it out. Also, did you have a powerhead setup on the side where it cracked?
