Are teardrops' price dropping? and when?

Anybody tell me if teardrops are that rare that they cost over $200? I haven't seen that many teardrops in the last year or so and now they seem to be popping up everywhere especially internet businesses in S. cal.

I know a few of you have bought from a few online sources but eventually these clams will come fairly cheap in the near future possibly.

So are these teardrops coming from the same source? And what source is it? I see that aquadesginz, clamsdirect carry them and now aquaprop.

I am going to have to do some more searching in the S. Cal and try to find the hookup myself.

I just bought a killer gold and green teardrop like the one pictured for a little over $100 from ecorals.tv recently. They had a bunch of them and were from 3.5-6". Mine was 4.5-5" .

Might wanna try calling them.

$100 is a great price. You have any pics? Do you know where the clams came from? Solomons?

Alright Alright sorry...

If you do find anything for cheap, or regardless of the price.. Ask of WHERE it is from, and if it is attached to a rock, how well it is doing. Ask for updated pics, and ask for how long it's been in captivity...

Good luck my padawan!!!:p

Perry,

Was told that those clams he has are from Viet Nam and I seem to remember that those clams had a high mortality.

Others that I have seen on the web are from Solomon Island so the wholesalers say.

The ones from so cali retailers near the L.A. area all come from the same spot. They're all Solomon.

I don't believe that they were from vietnam. As far as I know the gold teardrops are coming from the Solomons as everyone above stated. I am not sure if they were from LA or not. In any event, they were good sized, good coloration, and good price.

Alright cool, thank's for clearing that one up Ali. Just making sure, have you gotten a new teardrop after that Bali one bailed on you? I've had success so far with this teardrop.. It's looking healthy and going strong.. I will have updated pics by saturday posted on my site....

Check back often to get the updated pics of the tank and the clam...

Cheers.

How big are they? Cause then again price also ranges from sizes.... I paid a load for mine because mine is a 5+ specimen... So I'm guessing the ones in So Cali are definetly smaller!

Good luck with the clam if you so choose to have one!

No I haven't yet. But the Solomon's TD seem to be the real deal so far. I haven't heard of or seen any "sudden" deaths.

I am sticking to Marshall Island's maxima clams in my system only, with exception to possibly a couple Solomon croceas. However, a seperate system that will only house Solomon TDs is in the works.

Just curious, has anyone ever seen baby 1-2" teardrops?

mine is between 4 and 5 inches, likely closer to 5. It's a killer deal, at least better than what I typically see from a retail aspect. This was monday, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were all gone.

How about not buying them until they start being captive raised? You can get beautiful captive raised clams, and you're not contributing to habitat distruction when you buy them.

Looks like things are now changing. Barry just got a TON of gold teardrop maximas priced as low as $100.:D

talked to Barry yesterday and he said the ecorals TDs are from the same place in the solomons as his. Picked up one of Barry's TDs and they sure are pretty--not as pretty as that one the aquaprop boys sold typhon, but pretty nonetheless.

What would you guys say a clam like this one is worth. I am just trying to see if I got a very good deal

jackson6745,

At first glance it looks like a medium size crocea.....Somewhere between $40-75 IME.

When in doubt head over to check out Rob or Barry's websites for comparison pricing:

www.eastcoastclams.com
www.clamsdirect.com

fwiw: It is nice bonus to have a color pattern that shows through the glass but I don't think that impacts the price.
