Well the other acan I have the heads are much larger like a 50 cent piece when ballooned out maybe it is older or something.

The 1 in the picture the heads ballooned out are about the size of a dime.

Hard to tell from the photo, but if the heads are close to a dime in size, then they are most likely Micomussa Amakunsenis (spelling??).

However, if you are asking if they are Micro Acan's, as in small acan's, the answer would be no, as that is not a species of coral

As everyone is saying, its hard to tell without a clearer pic. From strictly the coloration, they look like indo acans. I have some indo acans that are only a little bigger than dime sized. A clearer, closer pic would be a big help though. ;)

Dime size is WAYYYYY too large for Micromussa Amakusensis :) the retracted structure is closer to that of a #2 pencil eraser... those in the pic also appear to have individule rather than shared skeletal structure? Pic quality could affect this dx.

They best ways to tell are per the Aims/welks/Vernon definitions

http://www2.aims.gov.au/coralsearch...20pages/412.htm

The best portion of that definition states "Colonies are cerioid with neat angular corallites up to 8 millimetres diameter" Most of the polyps that the divers are calling "Micro" are actually more like 10-12 mm so that is the first give away... Next is that the skeletal walls are shared or cerioid, not individule also Extended Micro polyps mostly are always round where as the acans are more hexagonal due to skeletal structure.... Lastly and VERY important I have found but a difficult tools for the short term identification is that the Aussie acans take FOREVER to grow (one frag from 2 years ago was 2 polpys... it is just now 3 polyps ) whereas the Micros always grow VERY quickly when fed... Beyond that it is just visual experience.. I do hope that this helped

well they were sold to me as aussie acan it just looked much differnt from the other aussie acan I have that is why I question it. They are individual and not tied together.

With my experience of getting in over 100 colonies of acans it looks like an aussie acan to me just common aussie acan colors. Maybe the polyps are small because they are baby polyps???
