Are you keeping ZOANTHIDS under Chinese LED fixtures?

They are pretty much the same fixture besides the programmability. You'll love them. Remember though, when starting up start low wattage if you have corals. I'd say around 40 percent on each channel. They are much more intense than they look to the eye in the tank.

i heart chinese fixtures...
the reefbreeders has a "value fixture" which is very similar to yours. they both use bridglux leds (i think).
i have the photon 16(only difference is a single cord, and 1/2 hr controllability) and love it.
just ordered 2 photon 32's for my big tank...
i'll get some pics 2 nite

Jumped on the LED bandwagon awhile ago. Currently have the Ocean Revive U120's These are similar to the Evergrow. Technology is changing quickly. Who knows what will have in a few years. Tank looking great.

Do you hate Chinese fixtures?
I'm sorry I didn't understand. I think the auto correction took place.

I didn't know what type of LEDs they use for my fixture. So Bridglux are good LEDs, probably better than I thought.

The photon32 is ~$450. My fixtures, including shipping were ~$340.00 total.
Not controllable. Good lenses though. Separated cords. Good enough for me.
Thanks for sharing!!

More and more people changing to the LEDs every day.
One of the reasons I wanted to save as much buying the fixtures is because of the fast changes too.
Also, the ones from China, the black boxes, they work great. Until now I've never heard anything negative about them. So why spend more for the same?
The controllers are nice, so I understand why some people like that. Not a big deal for me.
Thanks very much!!

just throwing in my 2 cents, i just switched from HO T5 to a DIY LED unit running Chinese parts and loving every bit of it. my higher end zoas seem to be more open and coloring up more

That's good news!!
How many watts are you running?
Do you have any lenses?
What type of bulbs and how many watts per bulb?
What about the spectrum?
How much did you spend?

Thanks!

General question for the LED people:

How do we know how many watts are actually pulled from the wall with the LEDs.
Lets get for example 55 LEDs of 3Watts each = 165W (?), when they are running at 100%.
The fixture says 120W. Would that be what is actually consumed at 100%?
Some other people say only 65W is consumed.

Sorry- "I heart" as in " I love" lol
Ya, I think the value fixture is the same price as the ones you got. You won't be disappointed.
I had retrofit chinese in my last tank and loved them. This one had halide, I just sold it and bought the reefbreeders.
In my experience, sps grows slower wit h the leds, but fast enough for me. Zoas seem the same, lps seems faster under led. Never have been high on acans so I have no experience there. I have had 4 tanks and never owned an acan!

Thanks for clarifying! LOL!! Now know you actually love those fixtures. :D

Well, I don't keep corals, only zoanthids and other local invertebrates, like feather dusters and cucumbers.
It's so good to know that we don't have to pay for those expensive fixtures in order to have a good quality LED system.
I didn't know much about LEDs for zoas/corals because locally we have mostly the fish only LEDs for sale. They all suck! Part is because no one can keep live corals legally in the islands and not everyone is crazy for, or would pay a price, to keep local zoanthids.
You guys are luck to have those extra colorful zoas there!
They look like plastic or fluorescent rubbers! Candy!
Thanks again!

Keep the info coming please"¦

Yeah, all we can keep here are Hawaiian Zoas and some inverts.
Thank God fishes from other places can come in!!
No corals. :(

I don't have any personal reef tanks right now (4 maintenance tanks) but I love the way lots of these zoos and other corals look under LED lights. I will be setting up two reef tanks at home soon. What should I be looking for in LED lights to get the best colors out of all my corals?

I'm not an expert, but what I've been learning is that "full spectrum fixtures" with separated colors will allow you to play more with reflection.
In other words, when you have different colors of LED bulbs in a fixture, specially to individually control each LED bulb/spectrum, you will be able to emphasize those particular colors to please your viewing.

Some are really focused into the blue spectrum, looking for the fluorescent pigmentation of zoas/corals. That is another way to look at it.

It depends on what you want.

What I believe and follow is using whites and blues for artificial light, simply. I do not condemn those "full spectrum" and/or controllable LED fixtures though. In fact, I was considering to get one of those for my 75 in the future if I really like the LEDs.
But I really like the clean crispy look of whites and blues. Looks more natural to me.
I would say they all work great to keep corals/zoas in the long run.

Perhaps some one else with great experience, using LEDs, could add to my observations...

I was looking at the controllable onyx fixture by rapid. It seems like it has the ability to change the spectrum to my liking to bring out the colors to my liking.

so im still kinda led stupid so it might not come out right

max output sits around 170 but im only on about 30 percent on the one way and 40 on the blue second way

8 x Cool White 12,000k, 6 x Neutral White 7500k ,6 x Warm White 3500k, 2 x Red 660nm, 2 x Green 520nm, 4 x Violet 420nm, 7 x Royal Blue 450nm, 20 x Blue 460nm ( probaly going to kill out the warm white and add some more cool white)

has 90 lenese and i traded a lot for it so a price is hard to guess on
