Jaze, I was referring to a lack of a top, versus having one and still running a sump. You will still experience water loss if you have a sealed top tank, and an open sump. Thats what I was saying.

I love no top for access but with other critters here looking for a meal and things that can drop in (bulbs, etc.) I'm partial to covering up
