asking advice before i buy

i just bought a GSM. it's about 1.5". it's been in the tank for 1 wk. i'm looking to buy another one to pair with it. can anyone give me any advice or oppose to it?

If you can find some GSM's sharing a tank at the store, you're good to go. They usually start getting punky after 1" or so. Matching a Juvenile with a smaller juvenile is pretty safe.

^ not with maroons. It's very tricky pairing maroons and if not done correctly you will probably end up with one dead clown. Check out the sticky in this forum, great advise on how to pair these fish.

1.5" is still small. Either get a much larger one or a smaller one. They get meaner as they get older.

sounds to me like you bought and now asking for advice. You should have bought two juveniles the same size at the same time. one would advance to the dominant and take the roll as the female.

get a bigger one. especially since the smaller one is in it already so it might think that it is its territory. the big one should be ok.

I hope you have a large tank. GSM are the most agressive of the clown fish.

Good luck sounds like ur gonna have a clown battle on your hands.

Get a larger one or a smaller one and have a species box handy if you need to separate them Tupperware may work too. If they fight you may have luck with one in a container letting them get used to one another, but buying a pair is always better with maroons.
