ASM G1X vs. Tunze DOC 9015

I am currently running an ASM G1X on my 58 gallon reef with 40 gallon sump. Would the Tunze DOC 9015 be an upgrade. I am shifting more towards SPS dominance and really want maximum skimming.

The 9010 and the 9015 are the same unit only difference is the skimmer cup and $100. Your money is better spent getting the 9010 and the foam extraction cup add on for the same money.

There is no comparison when putting it up against a G1. Difference is going to be night and day. I had a G4 with sedra 9000 fully modded with meshwheel, gate valve, and recirc and the 9010 is keeping up pretty well to the G4 on a 110g ( community tank but more acros than any coral type ). Not necessarily better than the G4 but actually not very far off........ Considerably less noise and much smaller footprint ( allowing more room for refugium filtration ) make up for the slight performance loss in my case.

Tunze 9010 & 9020.140 Foam Extraction Unit

Tunze 9010 & 9020.140 Foam Extraction Unit

I would choose the 9010 ($327.44) and purchase either a 9015.140 ($105.52) collection cup or a 9020.140 ($95.28) foam extraction unit (http://www.tunze.com/149.html?&L=1&C=US&user_tunzeprod_pi1[predid]=-infoxunter028).

The 9015 costs $427.33 and is simply a 9010 with a taller collection cup & reaction tube to allow the skimmer to dry skim at full air throttle without overflowing the cup. A 9010 with the 9015.140 collection cup costs only a few bucks more for a total of $432.96. You can then try the different collection cups and air adjustment settings to suit your taste.

The best combination is the 9010 with the 9020.140 foam extraction unit for a total of $422.72. I believe that this combination wet skims at a higher rate than the base 9010 system and extracts more organics than the dry skimming of the 9015.

I don’t think you can over-skim an aquarium so the BM-200 will not be too much for your 58-gallon tank. You can run the skimmer for only part of the day if you think otherwise.

Really tough to say 100% but yes it's at least in the same ballpark. The way my G4 is configured may not be getting the absolute max from the mods as others may get, but dramatacally better than the stock G4+.

The amount of skimmate I'm getting average per day is very comparable about 150ml. It's tough to really judge the quality of the skimmate. Both ran wet and appear pretty similiar in color but who really knows how to compare........ The smaller footprint and noise reduction make up the differences ( if any ) IMO....

Increases the height some so you ran run the skimmer with the air valve opened more instead of restricted when using the standard cup. Is the performance reason to do so. It will allow more air and still run a bit wet vs the taller 9015.
