ASM G3 skimmer question

My skimmer recently has collected about an inch of slime in the collection cup but hasnt collected any more in a couple weeks. It has been on 24/7 but just keeps 'bubbling' in the 'neck' of the skimmer. Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the neck?? My G3 works way better if you keep the neck clean. It seems that the foam hits the funk on the neck and the bubbles break to soon and never make it to the cup.

If you wipe it out every other day why dont you just dump it then? The cup would already be off right?

I have cleaned the neck and collection cup and I am still having the same problem. Anyone have this problem? It is taking weeks for any skimmate to produce.
Maybe my water is just that clean? :)

I have an ALS Predator skimmer and have experienced the same frustration. In addition to cleaning slime buildup from the top post, I've had to decrease the output flow and build up the water column just a bit. However, adjust it a little a time and give it a few hours between each adjustment to measure the true effect. Too much adjustment and you'll end up spilling a lot of good saltwater out of your system.

You bring up a good question about water clarity. I've noticed much less foamy skimmate when my water has less dissolved waste.

Still having the same problem? Is this just a skimmer problem in general after you have had them for a couple years or do maybe different models not have this problem? For example, anyone with euroreef or any other brand have this problem?

My asm g4x is having the same problems i was told to clean the tube for salt creep when i put my finger over it dosent seem as strong as before so might be the problem. Others have said to clean the pump as well.

I have a g3 and I clean the venturi and pump once a month. I also feed RO/DI water through the tube about twice a week. Don't just stick the tube compleatly in the water. Let it suck water and air at the same time. This will keep the skimmer from overflowing while the tube is sucking water.

I just clean my venturi tub with some ro/di water so hopefully that would work some crud came out so thats good i will clean the pump when i do a w/c how do you clean yours jesse? thanks dmbnpj you should try that should work.

Just take it apart, put it in the sink and use long somewhat stiff brissled brushes to get the slimeyness off everything. If you do these things on a regular basis it's easy. It can be a bit more difficult if it's been a while. Make sure to get inside the impeller housing as well as cleaning the impeller itself.Doing this once a month helps keep things from scratching the impelled or damaging
the inside the housing which can shorten pump or impeller life. Also helps the pump run more efficiently.

Well not even a day after cleaning out the tub my skimmer is back to kicking butt! I hope this works for you too!
