ASM or Aqua C?

check octopus or aquaeuro threads... both inexpensive and work better from what most say... they don't have the long term reputation or marketing investments, therefore they are very inexpensive for what they are relative to others. check out the aquaeuro models at reefnut.com the prices can't be beat and the skimmers are supposedly awesome, i am gonna try the recirculating 135 (similar rating to those you mention)

so the neighborhood in question is a 300 max price. there may be some that i missed, so i invite anyone to make suggestions with these things in mind:
i cant spend more than 300 on a skimmer
i am planning a lps/zoos type system
my original plan was for a 30g display with 29g sump, but i already have an upgrade in mind to make a 75 drain into the 30 for the sump and that drain into a 55g refugium. gotta love that mts. i figured that since i already have the 30 and the 55(tempered, so i cant drill it anywhere), and i am gonna have to buy a tank either way, i would be happier with the bigger system if i can do it. none of the equipment is purchased either, so again i figure i may as well buy the upgrades first. so now that you may know more than you need to.......

They look affordable IMO. And they are built better than ASM

I would go with the aquaeuro myself, or find a nice used unit.

You have a hard limit of $300, but the EV180 is closer to $400 with a pump.

The skimmers linked to above would be a better option for less $$.

I wouldn't go with a ASM, not thrilled be the quality. If you want needle wheel then go with Aquaeuro USA, Reef Octopus, H&S Euroreef or used Euro Reef. If you want a down draft/spray injector I would say go with the Aquac and an over sized pump. I own a 120 ran by a mag 7 and get good results.

thanks for pointing this out. i did originally have 300 as the set price in my mind when designing the smaller system, and apparently the amount stuck in my head even when i went to look for a bigger skimmer. sorry for the contradiction in terms there:rolleye1:

the octopus skimmers look interesting. i will have to do some more reading. anybody using one?
