ASM or Octopus protien skimmer?

To be honest I would love to get a H&S or Deltec just to see if it's worth all the hipe but I'm not willing to sell my blood inorder to buy one.

I don't think I really want to sell my blood either. What's the footprint of the 200nw I don't see the dimentions listed at aquacave.

PCI lists it as 13" x 10.5"

I just got mine from Aquacave, but didn't measure what it actually is. Although I need to as I need to build a sump for it.

ASM has a better pump. If money is not an issue, you will get a more powerful skimmer with ASM. You may want to check out The euro-reef RS line as well. Their pumps are better than ASM.

But if you are on a budget, there is no doubt that RO is the best way to go.

Dude what you said made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

If money isn't an issue an ASM (and RO) would be the last skimmer anyone would even think of buying. The folks with money to throw away buy Deltec, H&S, and Bubble King NOT ASM

The analogy to your statement is like saying if rich doctor wanted a nice car, he would buy a Honda instead of a BMW.

I've been running a RO NW150 for over a month now. I'm more than happy and had money left over for more corals. For your tank, you could get a NW150 or NW 200. You could also step up to one of the Octopus Recirculating skimmers. With the Octopus brand, you can buy the recirc model ready to use right out of the box. With ASM, you have to get a hole saw and do the mod yourself.

Instead of getting into an argument with some who wants to take things I said out of context, I will take the high road.

What I meant was that if he didn't plan on a budget as small as one for the RO, he might consider other brands.

hey richC,

were can you get those sedra pumps oem? are they available with needwheel as well?

would be a hell of a buy to smack onto a non recirc octo :D

I thought ocean runners pulled in more air than sedra's? Saw in most diy's threads they were preferred over sedra pumps. Would think that would make it a no brainer. Hth.

Are they actually putting OR pumps on the RO skimmers?

Octopus pumps are not the identical to the Ocean Runners. the impellers are defferent. pin wheel vs needle padle combo. that is the only visable defferance that i can see. but i can only get get octopus to pull 11 SCFH max i no OR can pull 20 SCFH.

Is that a stock OR pump that can pull 20 SCFH, or is it modded?

Which OR pump would you put on a 8"x24" skimmer? Do the OR pumps come with a venturi?

tm613, I have the same skimmer and i'm running the stock pump. Obviously, you switched pumps, how much better is the OR working overall? Can you use the venturi from the RO pump?

Would the NW200 octopus skimmer be worth getting for a 240 gallon tank? Or would the NW150 be sufficient?

thanx,

Jay

the nw-200 minimum. and you may want to up grade the pump or mod the pump( pin wheel impeller).

Skidclan, almost nothing. Its a union, so it just unscrews and then slides off. If you've got 25" total, you're good, IMO.

I am running the stock pump

Does the ASM line of skimmers use the union as well? I am wondering what would be the best size for a 150 gallon with 30 gallon sump?

my ASMs were pull off type with a oring. you needed about 2" to pull the cp off.
