Does anyones skimmer go nuts after doing a water change?
Mine is not to bad but I do have to lower the bubbles for about a day right after doing a water change.
What did most people tell you about the bubble hgt?Originally posted by djtodd
most of my problem was trying to run the thing *way* too wet. But after talking to several people about where to keep the bubble level, I just set it and forced myself not to fiddle. Lo and behold, it worked much better.

There is an interesting short article on the Deltec site regarding bubbles remaining in the water column following a water change, and I suspect this may apply to the skimmer going crazy. It states that new or freshly mixed salt water has a higher surface tension caused by additives in the salt mix. This keeps bubbles in suspension longer. As water matures the surface tension decreases and skimming returns to normal.Originally posted by jasonstr8up

where does everyone set their riser pipe (if you have one vs the gate valve) for skimming i have adjusted mine countless times and never seem to get it right. i now have it about even with the bottom of the collection cup and get a very wet skim (really just colored water w/some chunks in it) have never been able to get a real nasty gunk out of it ever ???
It all depends on what size tank or load you are skimming, but the G1 is still a good skimmer. The G1x model is virtually the same skimmer as your G1 with a Sedra 3500, so if you upgrade your pump you will have a G1x. If you are running this on your 55 gallon (in your signature) then this skimmer should do well. Give it a try with the 2500 first, let it run for at least a week or more. If it's not skimming you could always order a 3500 pump, or even experiment with an Ocean Runner pump.Originally posted by fragaholic
Just picked up a G-1 for super cheap (upgraded from a berlin). I dont have the time to read through all these pages so if someone could answer a quick question for me please. I have read that this model doesnt perform, is it because of the pump? Can I upgrade to the sendra 3500 to replace the 2500? Do you know if the pump output is the same size? will this help the skimmer perform better?
-thanks

Will my AquaBee 2000 pump work with a G2 skimmer?
It came off my old Turboflotor Multi skimmer. It has a needle wheel impeller as well. Its rated at approx. 600GPH
If you have the Aquabee 2000/1 that is the same pump used on the Deltec APF600. That pump was included on some import Turboflotor skimmers and is IMO one of the best pumps available.Originally posted by jay-cee123
