Thanks for the input guys......but if I am going to use a sedra for the flow through pump do you think it would be better to get a 5000.....or will that be too much for the skimmer to handle??
If you are talking about getting a second 5000 pump to use as the feed pump in addition to the 5000 you already have as a recirc pump, then yes it would be too strong.

Basically you want the recirc pump to be the strongest, while the feed pump you only want strong enough to feed your skimmer at a rate which the skimmer can efficiently handle. Pushing water too fast into the skimmer will mean water will be leaving the skimmer exit too fast, and unskimmed.

My skimmer is running a 5000 recirc pump and the 3500 as a feed pump, and the feed is almost too strong. My next mod may be a step down to a smaller feed pump. If you are set on going with a Sedra then I don't recommend anything larger than the 3500 pump.

OK got my pump (sedra 5000) and the few plumbing pieces required to reduce to 3/4 " line today and as soon as I get home from work i'm going to plug her in. Can't wait :)

G3 Mods

G3 Mods

Ok.....so I'm new to this "club"....and I may have missed reading it some ware in this thread......so heres my question......has anyone put a sedra 9000 on a G3 in recirc mod......and how is it working out

I am looking in to upgrade my skimmer.but I need a web site to do my home work.I read a lot of this thread,it seem ASM skimmers have a little quork.how to adjust the height of the neck.with all the money that they get ,I thank it should be on the skimmer."a line"

Djtodd or Kenfused, did your sedra 5000 take a bit of time to break in or did you run it in warm water before pluging it into your G2's ? I just installed mine (non deltec for now and not as a recirc) and its creating TONNES !! of bubbles but no foam head as of yet (3 hours since pluged in) and I'm just curious.

On a side note... Man is the 5000 waaaay bigger than the 3500 :) side by side the 3500 is like a mini me of the 5000 :)

Yeah, any time you add new plastic there's a break in period. I always just "ignore" it overnight. The next day it'll be merrily skimming away.

Thats what I thought as well but this morning it was still at the same level inside the reaction chamber... I'll wait till I get back from work and see what its doing then.

I did a water change last week and ever since then my G-3 has not produced much at all. It was working great before the water change. I also noticed a gurgling sound coming from the silicone air hose. Should I pull the skimmer out and clean it or just leave it alone? I remember reading that itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s common for ASMââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s to stop working for a little bit.
I adjusted the height of the bubbles so that it will skim wet, but Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m still not getting much. It is producing a nice foam head though. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not even getting the gunk buildup on the sides of the collection cup. Any thoughts?

It's possible that the air line that feeds the Venturi is starting to clog with salt. Pull the pump and air line and look at where the two meet. After you clean them good, run warm fresh water thru it every few days (just a squirt) to help keep it clean.

WOW... That's all I can say for now...

I just recirc'd my G3 and did the direct overflow feed.... This thing is gonna really kick some arse.... Still have the gate valve to go, but I ran out of time today....

Will post pics.. It is already skimming like crazy.......

I was gonna toss a 9000 on it just for the heck of it, but now I am not sure I will bother... Pics tomorrow, or the next day.. ;)

Got home from work today and found that the water line in the chamber was at the same level (since last night when I put the sedra 5000 on) but there was light tea colored skimate in the cup bout 1/4 inch so thats very strange to me.
- Any thoughts ?

Just looked at the skimer and OMG its skimming like CRAZY !! foam head is huge and keeps dumping over the edge.. Set it at only 1 inch inside the chamber... The G2's should definatly come with the sedra 5000.

I guess a little patience goes a long way. A friend of mine bought a deltec last month and when he set it up it didn't do anything. He posted on the deltec site he was having problems. 2 days latter it was skimming like a mad man. It just needed to brake in.

I agree, the 5000 is so much better. Have it hooked up as a recirc pump with the old 3500 as a feed pump, and now I get a full cup of dark brown skim every other day. I've posted it before, but ASM is missing out by not selling a G2 with a 5000 pump (G2x).

The way this skimmer runs now with the 5000 recirc, 3500 feed, and gate valve mod, I've nicknamed it my G2Xtreme.

Did you do the mod yourself, and did you buy the mod kit? Was it simple to do? I'm picking up a G3 and wonder if it's worth doing before its plugged in.

lol.... Kenfused good name.. My next mod will be the recirc oin the 5000 with the 3500 as a feed but for now I have some new attinic lighting to get done :) always something... SO kenfused did you find that there were back pressure issuses when you recirced it ? and do you have the airline on the feeder as well ?
