Andy O, I am no expert in the area of setting these up.....yet 
The reason I used the sponge at the bottom was to collect any fine bubbles coming through the drain of the Gate Mod.
I haven't set this up in the Sump yet and I am not sure I will, the sponge that is....
I have a baffle system in the sump but would like to minimize bubbles at all costs....
Perhaps trial and error...can't hurt anything.

3rd post. Hopefully someone will help me or I will try to post elsewhere.
Questions:
How do you fix the pump falling off of the g2 body. Can I order a uniseal 3/4 inch which is used in the mod to seal it?
Please help.

The fact that you haven't gotten answer is probably indicative that none of us has had this problem. I know that I just plain can't get the intake tube off the body of my G2.
I might suggest contacting asmskimmer.com and explain the problem to them. They might have seen this before.

Did you put the base on the bottom of the pump? I did at first, but it makes the pump sit at an angle, which weakens the connection. If you used it, ditch it, you dont need it, the pump wont move.

I did put it there at first but it got off angle so I fogot about it.
I may have soaked it vinegar too long. I dont soak it long tho only about 15 min.
anyhow I need to get a replacement.

Did your skimmer not come with a uniseal to connect the pump to the skimmer body? If not, it should have.
I dont think vinegar would hurt anything. Are you sure you put it together right? The directions kind of suck. Have you been to asmskimmer.com and looked at the pictures to see if its put together right?
There really isnt any pressure put on the pump so I dont see how it could blow off. If the pump and skimmer body are both sitting on the sump bottom, they should stay together with the friction from the uniseal.

I am just about to pull the trigger on a g1x for my 54 corner but, I need to know the max depth of water this thing can run in to make sure it will fit under the cabinet with my current sump water depth.

I was wondering if I could pick some brains a little on these ASM Skimmers?
I recently purchased a G3 with Recirc/Gate Valve Mod.
Prior to this, my tank was setup with a Remora C Hang On and a Ehiem canister filter for filtration (no sump).
Well...I decided I wanted a sump so I built one to house my G3.
In order to do this I had to purchase a new CPR 100 overflow, all new plumbing, new sump, new return pump (Mag9.5), etc
Anyways..I received the skimmer and did the warm bath vinegar thing(previous post on here)...now the moment of truth....
I dropped the skimmer into the sump.....started the CPR Overflow, filled the sump, turned the skimmer on , a started the return pump.
What I am noticing is a ton of tubulence in the chamber and it is not producing a "frothy" foam but rather tiny little micro bubbles which are breaking half-way up the collection cup.
Perhaps paranoid but is my entire setup just breaking-in?
