Anyone know how much additional sump space is needed after recircing a G3 ?? Its in a 12x12 compartment now and there is no spare room. Any one know the area I will need after the recirc mod ??

Depends on how you do the recirculating mod if you do it like how the Deltec skimmers are designed it takes less room. If you just keep the pump on the bottom of the sump it takes up more room. look at how Deltec does there recirculating shimmers, I'm planing to do.

I was emailing Todd at Global and he suggested a very obvious tip for my leaking seam. Coat the o-ring with vaseline.
I tried it last night and the leaking stopped completely.
The tabs the are used to hold the two parts together are very small and just weren't engaging. A little vaseline and both parts are sealed just fine.:)
Now to try and find a sedra 2500 nw.

Is vaseline reef safe? I would be afraid of it getting into the water...

As long as you use a little common sense and don't get it all over. You are just putting it on the o-ring itself.
Using vaseline on o-rings is a fairly common thing and I had forgotten about it till Todd reminded me.

Hey Mg426, yep thats what I'm going to do on mine. There is somewhere in this thread a pretty good step by step by a guy that did it. I PMed him and he sent me a parts list of what he used. I see if I can forward it to you if you would like. By the way your on CMAS right?

I'm planning... well thinking of doing some drilling today for my recirc mod and feed pump mod. I have a G3, what pump is recommended for a G3 running on a 120 gal tank with ~25-30 gal water capacity sump??

Thanks in Advance. I'm off to home depot/lowes to look for a hole drill bit.

If you are wondering what size nw pump to use for the recirc mod, I modded a cpr sr6 skimmer with a sedra 5000 nw. The skimmer body is about 20" tall. But if I was going to hang on to it, I would like to try a sedra 9000 on it.

I have a confession to make. I didn't have enough strength to read the whole thread :)

I got ASM G3 skimmer, set it up, but gasket that goes from pump to skimmer body giving me lots of trouble. It always becomes loose no mater what I do, and bubbles are escaping to sump and making skimmer section of my sump looking like milk.

Any suggestions on solving my dillema?
Thanks

Same thing happened to me. I ended up siliconing the rubber seal in the body and making a new pipe that goes into it with 2 pvc 45's and a little longer piece of pvc pipe. I made that pipe long enough to add a pvc 45 on the inside to make the water swirl around in the body.

Is it Ok to silicone the gasket (I assume with aquarium silicone)? If (when) I need to remove it later on, could it be done?

Yeah sure, whatever it takes to make it stay in. I used aquarium silicone, with the idea that it would be easy to remove, if needed.

Last night, between 7:30 and 8:11 pm pacific time, I got 18 notifications of a post to this thread.
Between 7 and 9 it was very difficult for me to logon to RC.
Must have been some sort of hickup with my isp.
When the notifications that someone has posted to this thread started coming in, I thought, cool, some new info.
Then it would take anywhere from 3-5 minutes to get here and a couple times it timed out, and I saw the last post was by TekCat.
Like I said most likely a hickup by good ol comcast.:)
