I heard a rumor that ASM is unhappy with ASMSkimmer.com and they won't be selling them anymore. Anyone else heard this?

I will elaborate on this a little...

I am with Marine Solutions, the ones behind ASMSkimmer.com.

What MJAnderson said is true. Back in March, All Seas Marine, the manufacturer of the skimmers we all love, decided to implement a Minimum Advertised Price on their skimmers. This was implemented to even the playing field for everyone selling the ASM products. This is also when everyone started saying that ASM was getting greedy by raising their prices. In all reality they (ASM) were not making anymore money themselves, this move actually made it more lucrative for resellers who carried their products. Once the MAP was initiated, resellers who were not selling the products at the new prices were going to be cut off from buying anymore skimmers from them.

We were forced to make some business decisions based on the new MAP. We ended up reverting to our old prices and as a result are no longer allowed to purchase their products.

It is too bad really, we really made something great out of nothing.

Rob,

Sorry to hear that. It seems like the Octopus are becoming what the ASM were...the best skimmer at a decent price.

anyone put two G3s in a sump? If so what is the tightest footprint you did it in? I am wondering If i could get them together in a position that would fit my sump.

According to this thread yes you can do that for more info it is buried in this thread somewhere , just finished reading the first part of this thread and the second part , considered the first part more informative but that is subjective . Got my G3 the other day for those like me and not very experienced , turned on the pump dry sounded very noisey , placed it under water quiet as a mouse , pleasently supprised as I heard the pumps can be noisey . Got the gate valve MOD seems the bill and eliane MOD seems best keeping the gate valve and the outlet as low as possible to the skimmer with the vent pipe capped off with a small hole drilled in it to control the noise , anyway thanks for all the threads ,very helpful

Figured I'd pass this along to anyone that is looking to buy an ASM. Big Al's online is running a deal that you get 20% off a $40 or more purchase online if you charge it on your Amex.

Here is the link:

Jaeden,

Can you point out what the Bill and Elaine MOD is? I'm ordering the parts to put the gate valve in my G3.

btw, my pump is noisy. Cleaned it twice, still not pleased with it.

water level set point

water level set point

I have a G3 with recir and gatevalve mod. What is the water level inside the skimmer should be? I set mind to almost half way in the cup and not getting too much skimmate. Could it be the water level inside the skimmer or could it be the air intake. I run mine inline with an air dryer and ozonizer. Does anyone use an airpump and what kind? I am planning to add a coralife luft pump. Any suggestions?

ddboy, I have a g4x r/c modded. My feed up is a gen-x n/w 2400. I tee'd into the 2400's air line to feed OZ. I was thinking- that by not using the tee it would restrict the air flow too much. You think you may be restricting air too much? Try it a couple of days without OZ.. ;)
I set my level just above the bottom of cup (@1/2" into throat) I get very nasty skimmate for a few hours after feeding, then it seems to run at idle waiting for a new load.
I also run RO/DI water thru air lines every week to keep restrictions out (salt)

MJ-

The main thing is the order of the pvc parts. I have tried various configs also. There are several threads last year alluding to this setup as being the most successful.
Might be some confusion in theit thread. Mine is configured like this:

Riser - Tee - Gate Valve (Horizontal off Tee)- 90 Elbow (street)- down pipe to sump.

I do not have an extension on the upside of my tee.

thanks for your help, I will try that for a day, just to give you more info. about my set up. I am using a rio 600 as a feed pump, which is 200gph. i think my ozonizer set up do restrict too much air. I heard the more air going in, the better the skimmer will work, is that true?

Thanks Pad.

These is some tubing running off to the right. Is that hooked into the mod in any way?

The other post mentioned capping off the riser tube and drilling a hole in it. Did you do that as well?

Yes, the more air the better. (don't hook up air compressor :) ) but I have hear of a few people using a small air pump to help out!! I have not done this so don't want to tell you how..

MJ- I think they run Ozone and that is a Tee for the input. you won't have to do anything with that for the GV mod.

I did not cap my riser at the tee and drill it. I have the materials to do it but really haven't had the need. Mine is quiet enough and I think that is why it is done for the most part.

I've had my G3 on my 120 for a few months now and I have the GV and recirc mods on it, with direct feed. However, I can't say i'm really satisfied with it. I've never once acheived a full cup and am skimming as wet as I can. Is there anything I should do to get at least satisfactory results? Should I try to cut down on the flow it receives... I'd say it recieves maybe 300gph... hard to tell though.. could be a lot less or a little more. I'm thinking of getting ozone... would that help? Also, where exactly do most of you have the water level INSIDE the skimmer? Thanks!

ozone

ozone

I have the effects on ozone, you will get clear blue water that is like the ocean. For me, it helps the skimmer to get dryer foam. I don't know if it was due to the air restriction I have. I do highly recommand the use of it.

Now, my question is if I use a tee on the intake, meaning I will be mixing regular air with the ozone air and that would decrease the ozone effectiveness, since ozone air should run dry. would it be better to just get a bigger pump. I tried using the Optima pump and it is barely better than not using the pump with the ozonizer. I do found that I got the best air intake when not connecting the ozonizer nor the air pump. That's why I am thinking about getting a new bigger air pump. Anyone use an air pump? and what brand?

Just purchased the G3 with the gate valve also ,read those earlier posts with the same config you got supposed to work the best , one question to clarify the 90 that goes back to the sump how far under water is it , if at all and have you tried capping off the pipe that goes vertical off the T then drilling a hole in 1/8 th of an inch with filter floss in it ,it's supposed to be quieter

Thanks to the person who suggested the muffler.

3" of 1.25" pvc, 2 caps, some poly fiber and a rubber band and I'm in business

Can't hear the gurgle anymore. Wondering if it's possible to cram too much floss in there? Any way to tell if the pump isn't getting enough air?

Quick question how are you injecting ozone to your skimmer? Any pics??? I've been searching for ozone resistant "T" fittings, but can't find any.....What did you use?
