this is how mine is set up. first air pump or not, then air dryer, then ozonizer (mine is the redsea deluxe with controller), the output of ozonizer goes to a check valve, then to the intake of the skimmer(venturi).

HOW TO GET MORE AIR......Take the venturi off of the pump and take it with you to the hardware store(lowes, homedepot
)get new air line that just fits over the venturi. The line that is stock with the skimmer has to flex quit a bit to get over the nipple,i put zip ties on mine and have had no troubles and i get lots more air....hope this helps...

GVM....when you come off your 90 and back into the sump i have mine about 6" under the water line
....my vertical pipe off the tee is about 8" tall
....from the tee to the gate valve i have a 6" piece of pipe

Hope this helps, and all you hear from my G6 is the venturi's sucking air, very quiet......good luck

Looks good MJ  mine didn't take much poly to keep it quiet.. The only way we could check for sure to see if air flow is restricted is with a meter.. drill another hole in top, if you want to make sure-- you can always replace the cap if you don't like it.

Hmmm...still an issue.

I made the muffler and was initially excited about how much it cut down the noise. But now that it's been on for a few days, I'm realizing it's just taken it from a jet engine to a car engine. I can't hear it from upstairs anymore, but I can still hear it from across the house.

I have to assume there is something wrong with my pump since there is no way anyone could sleep in the same room with this. Any other suggestions before I send it back? I've cleaned it twice, messed with moving it around my sump in case it was bubbles from my return and built the muffler. I have 5 more days before my 30 days is up on returning it.

My ozone was set up like DDboys minus the check valve because it was above the water. I used a Luftpump by coralife and no T. This air pump is adjustable and no T made my skimmer silent. No sucking noise. W/O an air pump you are really restricting the air to your skimmer, the suction of a KSP9000 is okay, but not enough to pull air throiugh an air dryer, OZ unit, check (valve if installed), and all the extra tubing. If you do a T and don't have an air pump it will pull more air from the free side of the T because that is the path of least resistance - IMO.

luft pump

luft pump

cool, I just bought my pump and will install it today and see. I think the problem with the T will defeat the purpose of the air dryer, then you are sucking in undry air to mix with the ozone air.
I hope with the larger airpump, I can get more skimmate out.

G3 with larger pump

G3 with larger pump

Has anyone use a bigger pump for their G3? and what is the result? I have a ehiem 1260 extra and may want to install that on my G3, or install the sedra 9000 or something. will that be to much flow in that G3 body?

the reason for an air dryer is to keep your Ozone unit operating as efficient as possible. residue from the moist air will build up on the inside of the unit and kill the output by as much as 50% - from what I have read. The T would come after to "allow enough air to enter the venturi" - already explained my opinion on that. Hope this helps.

As far as the G3 a 9000 I don't know. Do you have the RC mod. That will get more dwell time which is what you are probably after instead of more flow. Either way you will just need to re learn the perfect settings. I have a G4X with a 9000 in rc mode and a 5000 as a feed pump, both pulling air, and I love it I'm sure you could do something similar. Call ASMSkimmer.com They will give you an honest opinion. They actually talked me out of doing 2 9000's in rc mode with a small feed pump, even though it cost them the sale of a pump.

G3 recir

G3 recir

I did get a G3 with recir and I am using a rio 600 as a feed pump. The unit has been running for 2 weeks now. But I am not getting skimmate like alot of people say. Is it just me or is it normal. I don't even get half of cup after 2 weeks.
How high do people set the water?
Mine is a little over an inch from the neck.

I have a quick question. ASM is always my preferred choice in skimmer, but i'm in a prediciment. I only have enough space for a G1, but really need a G2 or G3 for the tank. Is there any ASM's in the works or anything close that does not have to be placed in the sump?

G3 recirc.

I would do the gate valve if you havn't already and set the foam in the middle or just below middle of the neck.

G3

G3

I have the gate valve and recir and luft air pump. So set the water level just below middle of the cup? That's what mine is set at. I don't know is because my tank is mainly fish, so I don't dose lot of liquid food, but I do feed my fish twice a day and my fish load is pretty high.

what size tank are you using the G1 in 21ducks?
Im using a G1x for my 72 bow and it skims like a champ.
I havent heard anything lately that ASM was putting out an out of sump Skimmer .

ddboy sounds like you are all set - give it a little time maybe raise the level a very little. It might be hard to switch to a 9000 because it is a greater distance from the in to the out. It took a while for my skimmer to start kickin - and I have a xtra high bioload. It came w/o the mods and took days to start skimming each time I changed the set up. Once I left it alone it started working. Good luck it sounds like you have a great set up it will work.

I just had to share. I completed my recirc mod on my G3 and I have to say it's skimming so much better now (not that it wasn't skimming good before). I'm feeding the G3 with the original Sedra 5000 and mounted a second Sedra 5000 vertically like the Deltec's for the recirc. The skimmer body has so may many more bubbles now it looks like milk...

Tee

Tee

I am now using 2 air pump to pump more air to the skimmer and it produces more wet air. but it is too less air if I just use one. but after reading some of the recent post. I forgot the Tee is not ozone safe. where can I find one? So far, it hasn't melt yet. should I be concern?

they dont melt, instead they become brittle and just shatter or crack. I use www.usplastics.com. Buy a tubing for 1/4" ID piping. The 1/8" id (what i thought airline was) ended up being way too small and restricting air. Here is a link to the exact one I bought:
Tee- http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/va...tegory_name=&product_id=9020&variant_id=64461
Y- http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/va...tegory_name=&product_id=9057&variant_id=64472

You can use a Y or T. Both work the same for me. The 1/4 ID fitting is a bit big for airline but the airline actually stretches enough to fit over it. And the tubing that comes on the skimmer fits perfect over it.
