What does shortening the breakin period accomplish? If you think saving yourself potentially 24-96 hours is an accomplishment, your in the wrong hobby, but I digress.

You could be doing something more effective (e.g., water change or enjoying the new fish/coral). Come on, its just a skimmer.

I had a couple weeks to set up my sump and skimmer, while I waited for my tank to be delivered. So I did alot of different things to it before I put it on the tank.

I had no time in my case. I had benn running a CSS220 P.O.S.
I got my G3 just in time to install it before running out the door to work.

I am under the asumption that the excess construction residues would not be good for the aquarium. That is why I ran in vineager and even scrubbed the body inside and out. Still with all that it still took a week to get a good cup.
The unfortunate part is that most of us only have room for one skimmer, a cut and replace with an ASM that is not broken in may result in minimal skimming for a week. That might prove harmful in some cases.

Need a bit of help here. I have just spent the past week trying to alter my existing set up to use this G6 I got a great deal on.

After many many headaches, I think I finally got it running. Now my problem is that the water splashes down and gets everything around my rubber maid very very wet. How can I fix this?

As you can see, I started toying around with ideas.

I dont see the gate valve mod. That will solve your splashing problem.

Just got my G3. I have it running on my LR holding vat breaking it in for now. I cant wait to get my 90 going and get this puppy rocking!

since noone else is helping i will try my best to explain. the way you have the plumbing on your g6 now, your 90 degree elbows and the fact that you have it plunging down into the water will create backpressure on the pump and cause the waterlevel inside of the skimmer to rise a lot. There are two ways you can prevent splashing down of water. One way wuold be to do the gatevalve mod. http://www.asmskimmer.com should still have the info ont he gatevalve mod you would be looking for. Another way would be to get a sponge that sits on the riser pipe that comes witht he skimmer and stops the water from making the falling sound in the sump. Either option will work fine to stop the splashing.

I agree try out the gate valve mod, the g6 should behave a lot better with it.

Well I added a sedra 2500 nw pump to my G-4x that already had the recirc mod with the sedra 9000.
Was just wondering if anyone has added a second recirc pump to the G-4x?
Like maybe another sedra 9000? or smaller 5000?

The only difference I've seen so far with the gate valve mod is the ability to run the outflow pipe underwater instead of it coming out of the stock outflow pipe and splashing a little.

my gen-x 2400 (used as a feed pump)- doubled the amount of bubbles in the body. I was able to get very thick dark skimmate also..
I am trying a gen-x 6000 now-- but its really too much! it almost overflows the cup, with gate valve wide open..
As soon as i get the $ up, I plan to buy another sedra 9000 and mount it r/c..

I just joined the club and recieved my g1x this morning. Wow, what a sweet piece of equipment.

I put a little tank water in it, popped it in my sump, plugged it in, set the water level and it is making alot of foam.

However, after 3 hours it started making a funny noise. I just unplugged it and see no problems, what do I do now?

I was looking to go R/C. Is the Sedra 9000 the pump to get for a G3?

the 5000 is the g3 pump. the 9000 is for the g4x and up I think.

I fixed the noise problem, I pulled sedra apart, everything looked great. Then I noticed the pump was slightly lower than bottom of skimmer. I pushed the pump farther up onto the elbow fitting and reinstalled skimmer into my sump and noise went away.

Couple of questions/observations. I just redid my sump and now My G3 is in 10 inches of water. the skimate seems to be way better(was in 7 inches) The gate valve seems a bit touchier though. Also I am going to do the recirc mod here in a couple of days. I am thinking of using a NW pump for the feed pump. Anyone ever tried this out????

I just added a sedra 2500 nw as my feed pump for G-4x.
Wish I would have bought the 3500.

I know. I was wondering if upgrading the pump was the way to go when doing the recirc and if the Genx or Sedra (or another) was better.

Hi! I'm anew member of the club. I've got my ASM G3 in the sump running, waiting on my liverock to ship in. I have already done the gate valve mod, the recirc mod and the direct feed from overflow mod. My question is: with all of these mods, does the water height it runs in still make any difference? Thanks for any help.

I have a NW pump from a CSS 220. Was going to use it as a feed pump in the recirc mode. Not sure what the flow rate is around 350 GPH ?? Any thoughts ???
