ASM skimmers good?

i love'em. havent had any problems with them at all and they do their job well.

Did you add the recirc mod to it?

not on any of the tanks. but at my old shop, we straped one on the sps frag tank. Great results after a little tweeking. Only thing with that is that we had to turn it off whenever we fed phyto/oysters so they wouldnt get sucked right out.

I have G2, great skimmer, just plug and play. Now I have MR3, need a lot of teaking at the beginning.

As long as you have the skimmer set in the sump/compartment where you dont have water level change due to evaporation, the skimmer will just do what a skimmer was built to do.

Are all ASMs in sump?

Yes Sean. But I first put it in the compartment of my return, and thats where I get the water going down due to evaporation.

The main display never looses water, neither does my refugium. But the last compartment where my equipment is at does, so there was constant tweaking to get the skimmate I want...

I'm probably going to purchase the G3, can't beat the price. Anyone have the Gate Valve mod done to their G3? If so, what are the physical dimensions after the gate valve mod? I need to know if it'll fit inside the sump i'm going to have custom made.

I've been eyeing the G2 for a 70g I'm putting together. How high does the water level have to be relative to the skimmer? Does it just have to stay constand or is there an optimum level?

I read somewhere else that people with the recirc mod or gate valve mod didn't see much of an improvment...could it be that bio load just wasn't that high to begin with?

ScallopKing, is this going on you 180? Which one are you looking into?

Nope, this will be for two new holding systems that my friend and I are setting up. I'm looking at getting the G5 w/ mod since it's rated at 700g. We'll have total 300g of non-displaced water in two seperate tanks and high bio-load so I want something bigger. Oversizing a bit but it's worth it, imo.

Sean.

Sean, remember who you are talking to when making omments like this!:) The skimmer is the lifeline of a reef tank. The G5 is a good skimmer and it will perform well.
