Assembly of 9010 Question

I recently bought a used 9010 on the forums. The internal pieces were taken apart for easier shipping, but I can't find any manual or instructions online to put it back together.

I know its simple parts internally, but I was wondering where does the cylinder piece go? One end has the tube that goes into the pump, but where does the other end go? I currently have it fitted under the adjustment knob, but its more of a manual 'jammed' into it. is this where it suppose to fit?

The skimmer is up and running, but I m having problems creating foam up to the bottom 1/3 or half of the neck of the cup. After one day of operation there is foam, but its really dry and not producing any skimmate. Some foam goes to the top of the cup and sits there and dries up.

At the moment the adjustment knob is at 60-70% open. The manual says to adjust slowly at a time. I read on here Roger recommends to open the knob fully on the 9010. Is this true? Anyone have experience with the 9010 air adjustment?

Am I doing this correctly or is my skimmer put together incorrectly? I also own the 9004 on another tank, and it was much easier to adjust and produce skimmate right away. I know new skimmers takes time for it to produce skimmate, but this skimmer is used so does it still take time for it to get used to my tank and produce skimmate?

Thanks!

I am not sure what cylinder you are referring to, the manual of the 9011 is identical, the only changes between 9010 and 9011 where the motor and the inclusion of a magnet holder.

In general a 9010 should have the air screw open 3-4 full turns, I can't ever recall recommending fully open.

The 9010 is venturi driven and a 9004 is needlewheel based and also is skimming off the most nutrient laden surface water. The combination of the smaller bubbles from the needlewheel and the richer surface water does produce a faster reaction time.

Thanks Roger!

i actually went home..and turn the knob a lot more... it produced around 100 mL of tea color skimmate in around 16 hrs. Does that sound normal?

The skimmate is like the 9004 ... tunze skimmers produce more wet/tea color skimmate oppose to darker/thicker right?

That would be great, usually you can expect 100 ml or so per 24hrs, for the first 2 days, it will then taper down as the cup gets dirty until after about 5-7 days it is only removing 25-50ml a day and cleaning the cup will bring the removal back up.

sounds good. when is it 'dirty' ... today was a bit slower already.. less than 50 mL... so that normal?

Every day it gets dirtier and dirtier and skims less and less, the sludge building up on the riser tube of the cup is what is reducing the efficiency.
