Assistance with new additions

I am still planning out my 90 gal build ( red house) and i am still reading hundreds of other build threads before i actually tackle this. I want to o it right the first time. Anyways i have noticed that many people do not QT any of their new additions and then their tangs get ich. i was under the impression taht all new additions shoudl be put into QT and put into hyposalinity for 6 weeks then bring up the salinity slowly before adding them to the display. Do you only have to do this with tangs or all fish?

Thanks guys

I would do it with all fish. Make sure you QT everything, not only with hypo though. I just lost several fish due to velvet. I bought fish from another member, figuring they'd be ok, wrong. So I would QT anything and everything. Hypo doesn't kill velvet btw, copper does. Also prazipro is good to use for internal worms etc. Also, nice numbers on that Z, I am american muscle all the way, but can appreciate any fast car, even if its the enemy :) Goodluck with your setup, your doing the right thing by researching everything and taking your time.

HAHAHAHAHA good to see other speed addicts.

Thanks for chiming in, I have a 25 gal tank with a HOB filter ready to use as a QT tank/hospital. I have read that it is safier to use hypo salinity to deal with ich ... i guess when i purchase new additions i will need to treat with copper for 6 weeks. I eventually would like a small tang in the display. would i have a problem if i had a tang in a 25 gal tank for 6 weeks?

Well hypo is good for ich, but that is about it. Mostly everything else is you'll need to use other treatments. I would definitely recommend prazipro for the internal diseases you can't see. Qting is a really iffy thing I think. You can treat for everything, hypo for 6 weeks, and still end up with ich later on in your DT. As far as the tang goes, depending on the size and type of tang, I would think you'd do a zebrasoma or Ctenochaetus species tang, so they should be ok in a 25g for QT purposes only, if relatively small.

zebrasoma or Ctenochaetus species tang

sorry i am not fimilar with the latin names, would you know the common translations

Not in a 90g. The powder brown/blue need atleast a 6ft tank, they get pretty aggressive and territoral. The sohal, ha, that is reserved for huge +8ft tanks with very aggressive fish (clown triggers, passer angels etc) these fish are extremely mean! Plus they need tons of swimming room. If you try putting one of these fish into a 90g, it just ups the aggressive territoral nature of the fish, not to mention the powder tangs will get ich, even if you QT. I have a yellow and kole in my 120g reef, they get along great, good personality and colors and the kole eats all algae!
