Asta 120 by Lumini

I'd link you to a discussion they started on a DIFFERENT forum, but this company doesn't seem to know what they are doing from a scientific standpoint. They started a thread to "educate" people on reef lighting and were saying things like metal halide and T5 don't have a very blue appearance, so they can't be as good as blue LEDs. LOL

I tried to educate them in that even the most yellow looking halides have a whole metric poopton of blue, but they don't seem to know what a spectral plot is because when I asked if they did, they no longer replied.

They also are trying to get people to PAY to beta test their lights.

Yes I think I read that. Not sure what they really meant by that comment but again I wouldn't give that much thought honestly especially that nowadays LED diodes used by nearly all manufacturers come from the same led makers, most units being made in China anyway.... in my case I needed a light to light up my Nano cube and had couple of options like the razor 60 w which was gonna cost me around 275 or the ration that was going to cost nearly double... (we don't get many choices here and shipping and customs nearly doubles the price ) so I did pay to use /test the light... but again I was going to pay more fire a light anyway.
Wouldn't want to get in that discussion but vendors sending free stuff for people to text or review should not be the norm as well as then the reviews are somehow biased. So in short regardless of all around it I got a wireless 4 channel nice looking light with housework or hanging kit for a good price and I'm having fun playing with it on a small Nani tank so it's kind of a fun project. We can go in conspiracy theories about led used or company not knowing anything about lighting or pricing strategy... I'll still think of it as a fun project and the real test for me will be how my corals look in 3-6 months .
So far I'm very happy with the 4 individual channels and the nice colors on this LED and I'm also impressed with color blending and coverage compared to my other LEDs.
So will keep you posted and we'll see how this goes.

I'm considering the Asta 120 planted/freshwater version for my refugium; thanks for the post and review, so now a few years later how's it going? Still using the light?

Nice on the dead thread revival. I have the Asta 120 freshwater for my fuge and it is A LOT of light. It was pretty useless for me because there were not enough nutrients at the time to support this much light. I ended up taking it off line and just using a cheap plant bulb instead. If you have a large fuge and/or high nitrates, this might work well for you.

Thanks [MENTION=146468]lpsouth1978[/MENTION], I went with the Asta 20 because I was afraid the 120 was overkill; great to have confirmation the 120 was/would be too much... Next I need a bigger tank and 'fuge to necessitate the Asta 120!
