ATB Nano One review

WOW you have that sump packed! LOL, I love it!

hehe

nothing slips by unprocessed (ya right!)

The pic does look a bit cramped doesn't it? but the sump is bigger than it looks and that angle looks like I'm an equipment hoarder with no where to put things except in the cabinet.:lolspin:

Looks like mine is 7*15 which will severely limit any skimmer choice I make.

have you checked out the eshopps axium skimmers? the 160 should fit. I like that design better than the S-series, decent length neck and they use sicces.

also So Cal tropical may still have some JNS Sk-2's in stock. they are 12" x 7.8" but should fit caddy-cornered.

Thanks for the review. Glad it is doing good. ATB does use Jecod DCT pumps not Waveline. Anton tested both and found the Jecod DCT pumps to be more reliable. My personal ATB Nano One has been running for two years and I have no issues.

been on vacation for a while. just returned & the skimmer is chugging along great!

I lowered the speed a click prior to leaving (nice option to have) and cup was right around 3/4 full (whew! close one!)

It's promising to hear you have been trouble free (PRDubois) for such a long time. I see no issues with this pump so far and the silence is wonderful.

Only issue I've found on mine is that if I run the air draw through the silencer, I have to run water through the air line weekly because the internal skimmer level rises as if the intake at the volute/venturi is clogging a little. Water clears it right up and it goes back to normal levels. I decided to just remove the silencer and now there appears to be less restriction and the internal level stays put. I can hear the air draw now but it isn't noticeable for me when the cabinet door is shut, so I'll leave it like that.

I stated i would get some air numbers and now that I'm back I will get out the old Dwyer in the next coming days.

Loving this skimmer so far!!!!

You are close, but the Nano one does need 7.5" x 12"
I now have a lot more room since my little modification. However, $400 isn't feasible for me with a kid on the way so I will look elsewhere. I used to have an 840 but the tank never came about. I just ran it in some saltwater for a few days to see how everything worked. It was a piece of art!

Does it perform better than the Reefdynamics 80 and did the 80 you were using have a Sicce pump?

Thanks for the write up!

Definitely curious on the air intake. 1200 lph seems massive for that size skimmer and neck.

I would give the edge to the 80s in concentrated skim. The 80 has a bigger/taller reaction chamber, but a narrower neck which produces a nasty foam head on my set up. The nano one has a big neck for such a shorty at almost 4 inches. If I feed heavy the nano one responds a lot faster than the 80. The 80 would drop the foam head about 30 minutes and the ATB will kick in in about 10 minutes. I would attribute this to the smooth rise of bubbles with atb. The 80 is turbulent since it has no bb plate. Air numbers soon. :-)

Okay, let's do some numbers

As you can see is skimming very well

Level 1 =19scfh/538lph

Level 2=20scfh/567lph

Level 3=22scfh/623lph

More to follow

Level 4=24ish/680lph

Level 5=26/27ish-/736 to 764 with slight bounce

Level 6= no change

Level 7=28scfh/793lph

Level 8=29scfh/821lph

Shoot, just noticed these are loading sideways,ARRG!
sorry, using my cell but you'll very the idea.

Level 9=29scfh/821lph
20170210_214103.jpg

Level 10 pic is missing but I'm too lazy to go back down stairs and snap another pic:debi:
Scfh on 10 bounced a little between 30 and 32/849 to 906lph

Other than a couple levels where I had some bounce, the draw was smooth.
The numbers are lower than the specs state but i'm running mine at 7 inches and I didn't give more than a couple minutes between adjustment for the skimmer to settle in. The draw will change a little with more time at each setting.

I can't see this skimmer being run at anything above 8. The neck is just too short. Running it without the cup at level 10 would be fine if you need to blast a critter up and out.

I'll try it later at different sump levels to see if I can achieve the 1200. I think it will do it if it's run at 8 inches

It would be cool if atb offered a cup with longer neck as an option

too late to edit but i just realized how mentally challenged i can be at times:sad2::headwally:.
there is no 9 and 10 power level.
level 6 was 793
level 7 was 821
and level 8 was roughly 906

i had some double pics on my cell that threw me off and i was counting pics.

sorry for the brain FFRRTT.

Any update on the skimmer ? Am considering it to replace my Deltec sc1351 with this one over a heavy loaded 100 gallon system .
Any thoughts ?

Abhishek

chugging along fine on my office 75. Took it offline at the house because i put in an aquafuge to hold more LR & matrix and the bracket for the dang aquafuge stuck out too far.
Really solid skimmer but many are skeptical of the long term performance of the Jecod pump. No issue with mine to date!

Update, nano one is back on line at the house and loving it. I had some serious crazing on the RD 80s and I have a turbos aquatics L2 scrubber in the que. The 80s was not going to be a good fit from where I need to mount my future scrubber. The atb is going to work fine. It's chugging great and I will keep updating on pump performance.

Happy reefing
