ATB vs. Vertex Alpha Cone

You had to put a 1500 on the 170 to get it to work? Since they come with a 1000 right? I definitely need a more powerful pump on my 200. 5 days running and my cup is almost completely dry.
Mojo did you check out the 200 and firgure any tricks to make it work? The i-tech 400 pulls 1/4 inch the first 2 days it ran then i had to return it but the alpha does absolutely nothing. I don't want my tank to get dirty enough for this skimmer to start working.

No, that pump came with the Alpha 170. At Premium Aquatics..

Huh? I will have to tell my friend. His says red dragon 1000 on his sticker. wonder whats up with that? I didn't see it myself but he looked at a pic on his camera and told me thats what it said. He is pretty smart so I am sure he can read something so easy. I think the 200 needs the 250 pump or nozzle or whatever is different. I am getting less than 1400 lph air. vertex website says 1700-2000.

is this what you are looking for

Did he buy it at Premium Aquatics? Over at Premium Aquatics, both the 170 and the 200 come with the Red Dragon 1500 pump. With that being said, my 170 keeps pulling up dark skimate everyday. I have my skimmer water level set real low to..

see yours has a 1000 also and another comes with a 1500? Could they be mismatching the parts during packing and I have the wrong nozzles? Anyone know where to get the nozzle measurements?

I think he got it directly from proline. He manages a store. My skimmer came from premium.
My skimmer sticker says 1400 l/h max air. The vertex website says 1700-2000 l/h. Can someone show me where to sign up for the extra air?

The motorblock is a askoll 1500 on all of the alphas. They must of mixed up the stickers. Each model has a different pinwheel/nozzle to give them more or less air pull

The 170 as I posted a picture of the sticker on it. I bought mine from premium but it doesnt matter. They use the 1500 motor block like V said. they change teh nazzle and pinwheel to try to accomidate the body size.

I have to get jeremy to call me back so I can try to get the nozzle and wheel for the 250. What I have isn't cutting it.

don't trust what the sticker says. the energy consumption numbers can be off as well.

edit: to try and say it nicer.

You mean the diameter of the neck? Or the height?

diameter. IMO its too big for them to perform well on smaller tanks.
but there are always exceptions. your skimmer looks like its working great. :)

Not to be a jerk but I don't believe the skimmer knows how many gallons a tank has. I think it knows a level of nutrients in the water. When the level is depleted it should shut down. to me this gives you headroom. I want my skimmer to shut down so I know it has done it's job. If it's always going it means it can't keep up. My skimmer just never has worked. Jeremy has a 200 on his 70ish gallon tank and his works great., Not sure what is different but mine is useless so far. I have 110 gallons of water. I am feeding 1-2 full cubes of mysis, brine and cyclops every day. I should be doing something besides growing algea by now.
Back to the neck diameter I think you are very right about them being to big for these skimmers. They should do better with smaller necks or a more powerful pump. They also undersized the discharge/wedge pipe. Why not use something larger just in case?

the RD 1000 is a 1500 block with the pins cut really really short, its a nubwheel, hence the powerfactor of .26.
