Ati dimmable or non dimmable

I run three ATI fixtures. One dimmable which the fans never worked right nor the controller. Ati was horrible with customer service when I had specific detailed questions about hooking up the controller. Like they were reading out of a booklet. The two sunpowers are great except for the fact the fans don't work. One fixture went out in less than a year.

Does anyone know why the fans are known for going bad?

Other than those issues I love the color I get from ATI lights. I can keep them real low on the tank and blast the wild and maricultured pieces in my shallow coral tank. They really give a nice pastel bright coloration. I took a nice green mille from my display with halides and reefbrites, put it under the ATI and now it's yellow and beautiful! If they would fix all the issues I would spend they money on a few new fixtures with the LEDs in them. But I can't trust something that I have had problems with especially if I am going to put thousands into new ones. Although the look soooo nice!

Yea I messed with them a while back but no luck, I will try again before ordering new fans.

Make sure the fan guards aren't pressed down on the fan. Bend them up just slightly with a butter knife.

I've never had the fans quit on any of my fixtures. Some were tempremental but once fixed, no issues again.

Thanks man! I got so fed up with the controller that is bad I never tried much to fix any fans. Just took the plastic guard off and used a house fan...

Did you watch the YouTube video on fan setup at ATI posted?

After that check with a voltmeter to see if there is power at the connections. Make sure that the fans "should be" operating when you're checking for power there. If no power, follow the connections down to the controller to make sure they are secure.

I have this exact set up 40b with dimmable 6x39w ati lights are 9 - 10" above water. Only running max 65% but have no issues growing any type of corals from zoa's to sps. Just a matter of placement

Thanks! With a hood I can't have enough clearance with the 36" ixture.

having personally had both - dimmable and non-dimmable, hands-down the choice I would recommend is dimmable. I don't mess with dimming t5 bulbs, but the single cord that runs EVERYTHING (both banks of lights, timers, fans, etc.) is amazing...
