ATI PowerModule setup question

Picked up my new 10x54W PowerModule over the weekend and I have a question on the setup.

The cord from the fixture goes to a small box which splits into to plugins for the various bulbs. There is also a small socket on this box. I assume that this is for the DC adapter that came with it for the fans. Correct? The adapter had several different tips that were not clearly documented, but only one seemed to fit so I'm using that one. Unfortunately I haven't seen any movement out of the fans. Should they be running all the time or do they only come on at certain times? Also, does it matter which way the tip of the DC adapter is put on?

The small socket is for the DC power. The fan will work only with the right DC polarity; you'll need to play with the pin orientation to get the right polarity. I have my fan power up and off with my first set of light instead of letting the fan run 24/7.
 
So to switch the polarity I just flip the tip over and the fans should come on? I thought I tried that but I'll check again this evening. The fans start up immediately when you plug them in?

Yes and yes. My instructions when I received mine had stated exactly which tip to use.
 
Also sometimes the fan covers that say ATI on them need to be lightly lifted away so the fanblades don't have any pressure on them,then just give a litlle lite turn to help them along.
 
Ok, figured it out. There was a little covered panel on the converter that was set to off, I changed it to the recommended 4.5V and things started working. Didn't see the panel at first and it wasn't mentioned in the instructions grrr. Oh well, every thing looks good now. Thanks for the help.
 
It's recommended to set the voltage to 7V or 9V for higher air flow to better cooling the lamps....especially in summer.
 
I also just received my powermodule last week. Took me a few hours to find that hidden switch on the converter too.
 
It said 4.5V was recommended in the setup section of the manual. If you are suggesting the higher voltages for more speed thus more cooling in the summer is there any concern that the fans would wear out?

The voltage can be set by peeling back the black plastic cover on the adapter itself. Then there is a slider that you move to set the voltages.

Hate to jump on thread but since this ATI owner, thought I would ask, Is the ballast built into the unit or is it seperate?
 
Nice, I wish more products were this easy. Never enough room in cabinets. How much would a 24 or 36 in poweremod or sunpower weigh?
