They really do display both shades of blue...not photoshopped. The third pic shows some of the patches closed up as well. You can also see cyclopeeze in their collumns if any of you are wondering.

do you have any pics of the polyps retracted so we can see the base? the first pic looks very interesting as they seem to be radiating out from a central mass (capitulum?).

i'm interested whether it's something like a capitulum or more mat-like/horizontal. i can't tell from the pics so far but the first seems to point to such a cap structure. thanks!

There's no capitulum. The bottom of the 3rd pic shows the closed structure. I don't have a terrific pic of just a retracted polyp, but can get one if it would help. The basically just look like individual blue mounds, some closer together than others. Some of them may look clustered into to a single capitulum-like structure because there are several hydroids and bivalves on the rock they have overgrown.
