Atomikk's 65 Reef

I couldn't agree more DgenR8!

Thanks King-Kong. See, I have no problem answering your normal comments. I know the tank is small for a Naso tang. I did want to see how it will behave to the environment that I do provide him. I know they are open swimmers, and I know he needs lots of swimming room.

So what I contemplated is to evetually either A) Keep him and upgrade a tank when he slowly becomes bigger B) Trade him in for some corals at a local Reef Club C) Outright bring him back to the LFS and get something smaller.

Well, its been a while since my last post. With the Naso, I decided to trade him in.

Ok, well.. since this tank has totally taken over my life and my money... I added a colony of YELLOW Zoas!!

I got it for 10$!! Can't wait until they spread..

Also I tested my calcium for the first time... and its 400ppm.. Not bad at all.

I also added alot of caulerpa into the fuge...just need lights and its set.

Well, today i was doing some price shopping for dwarf angels, and the like.. when I stumbled upon a small little aquarium shop that sold marine fish. Initally, I was scared ****less because they didnt have the greatest looking setup, but almost all of their fish were healthy looking and responsive. I was VERY tempted to pick up a Copperband Butterfly, but I am going to wait until I am 99% finished stocking my tank with LR to add him in.

So to continue on, I ended up purchasing one 1.5" Lemonpeel dwarf angel, and a 1" Fourline Wrasse. I took them home and realized that I was getting late for work, so I quickly acclimated them. Did the temp acc, plus the salinity acc via the drip method on both fish. I was going to put them in my QT BUT it isnt ready since the ammonia meter is reading "Alert". So I am taking a huge chance by not quarantening the two fish.

When I dropped the fish in, initially they were scared and hid. But 10 min later, they were eating and swimming freely. I will post some pics tonight for an update.

the wrasse can shake ich pretty well, but the angel could be succeptible to it. watch him, keep stress low, feed well.

I think a 29 gallnn would be the best fuge for the tank.. my tank only a 50 is the same basic deminsions...
36x18x18.. I have the aquafug hang on and I could have should have gotten a bigger sump fuge and used and over flow.. I have a ton of room under the tank .. on top I have the fuge and a hot magnum canister for polishing.. then 2 dual pc lights one with 10 actinics and one with a 12000k and a 14000k mines been going years and is pretty great tank but I just think the addition of a larger sump or refugium would be a little nicer.. AND it would help me to get rid of some of the extra stuff on top of the tank that to me deminshes the look....

I'm skimmerless now it works fine.. but I really want to get into skimming I just think it has to help and I have enough invested in my tank to want the best I can do for it.. although I don't have any problems at all now.

Is your flex tubing attached to the pump/skimmer with a metal hose clamp, if so you will probably want to rethink that.(kinda hard to tell in the pictures) besides that everything looks great.

Thanks. Actually is a stainless steel clamp from HD. It said on the label.

The wrasse looked good as soon as I dropped it in the tank. Even the Angel took roughly 10 minutes to come out and freeswim.

They have plastic ones at the HD, there are many grades of stainless, I seriously doubt a cheap clamp is made from high quality stainless, Eventually it will become toxic to your system.

Ok folks, here are the new pics!!

First of the tank...

Done some redecorating...

There she is.. looking for that algae wafer that i dropped in..

Here she saw something.. dont ask me..

Since they are so quick, and my camera is not fast enough, here they are the wrasse and the angel...

yeah, go ahead and replace all the stainless ones that are submerged in water w/ plastic ones. if you do a few searches here on RC, you'll find people with those stainless steal HD clamps that are absolutely destroyed from the salt.

FUNK! There goes my money!! Man this hobby is trunning me dry!! Well I ordered 2 250w XM 10k MH bulbs (ran me almost 200$ Canadian with S&H), plus I ordered from AquaDirect 36" PFO parabolic reflector with dual PC/VHO sockets and dual MH sockets, and a dual PFO 250w ballast. That ran me $322US, so like $380Can.. total of 580$ for a nice setup!!

Man I feel drained from shopping for the damned lights!!!!!

just wait in 6 months you will need to replace some bulbs...
and you start getting into corals and buy suppliments.. then you see somone elss stand so you upgrade it.. then decide on a bigger tank so you have t re upgrade everything including the 2 months old stand its an addiction

but see, I already know that I will upgrade. I bought everything knowing that. I dont need a new skimmer, maybe more lights (currently I am getting the MH 250 setup), maybe more plumbing.... anyhoo...

I was wondering where to get plastic clamps? HD didnt have any or they just didnt know what to look for. They showed my those plastic ties but those wont hold...

Ok, so I have a question about regular sized angels. I know they get HUGE around 16-18". What I want to know is how fast do they grow, are they reef safe like some dwarfs? Because I would love to get a juvenile angel, and then move her in a 100+gal when I upgrade in 1 yr or so. What do you guys think? At 2 or even 3" the fish should have enough room to swim since they are not free swimmers like tangs?

yeah, youll probably have to order online, so piggyback the purchase w/ something. I recently purchased some and they were the wrong size for what I needed, so I am now using zipties.. several.. I'll get proper clamps eventually.

My messed up ones are for 1 1/4".. nice clamps, just wrong size.

good thread, i am setting up a 58 RR tank right now.. same dimentions, but only 21" high, i am using a 20L for a sump as well

On the clamps, if your HD dont carry them, go to any pool/spa place, they carry them. At you local HD or Lowes, tell them they are for a pool or spa, that might make them know what you mean:):)

Good luck
