Attaching A Kenya Tree Coral

Hi is there any hope of having a Kenya Tree Coral frag attach itself to the LR I placed it on? Or, will I have to use the rubble band solution? This is my first coral. Thanks.

It does get gently rocked by the wave makers a bit but very gently. Does that count as being in the same place?

it should stay. i put mine on a lr and i left it there for a day and it attach itself to the rock

Either use a rubber band to attach it to a piece of LR, or you can use CA glue to attach it. Both have worked for me.

I hope I am not in the same boat. Is it safe to use coral epoxy on these soft corals?

We tried Aquamend but it did not work. When Softies are stressed they emit a slime, glue, epoxy just does not work.

Find a crevice in the LR and stick it into it, obviously this will not work if it is a flat surface with small or no holes. Even when I stick mine into a hole, it will work its way up to the light or to best flow, same thing occurs with my mushrooms.

When I got my kenya trees I turned off the pumps on that side of the tank so they would not be blown off. And then I put them on the rocks. It took about 3 weeks before it started to attach and 4 weeks till I could turn the pump back on.

I used IC gel for some frags of mine, and it worked out ok. The natural attachment will happen if you can keep the flow off of it until it, and section it away from the traffic of tank inhabitants.

I know that as soon as I put a frag into a tank, everyone (urchins, snails, lawn mower blenny, etc) has to try moving it around.

It might not be a kenya tree. Kenya trees, IME, have always been fairly abrasive to the touch. No sliming.

sorry to hi jack this thread. I also have a kenya tree. And it is growing pretty big. I was wondering how do you frag these guys? Do I just cut it off at the very end of the branch? Or try and rub him off of the rock?

Eventually, if it likes where it's at, it will just start dropping branches. You can cut it with scissors if you like though. Individual branches, or right at the top of the stalk. Both will work.

realest, no point of getting him off of the rock. If you can, remove the rock and frag outside the tank. Otherwise, use scissors to cut a few branches off and they try one of the above methods to get them to attach. If fragging directly in the tank, only frag 2 or 3 pieces at a time, as soft corals can leach harmful chemicals into the water when fragged.
