I would have to agree. You would have a better chance mixing a full blown adult with a juvi versus two with the exact coloration. As stated above not in a 65 gallon!!

They'll be moving into 225 by the end of this year. We'll see how it works out

I think if they were different sized, the odds go up. Still, not in a 65 gallon tank. So what is the plan between now and the end of the year?

Same here. OP, I'm trying to pair two juvie regals and it took a long time before they even tolerated each other. The aggression has lowered in my 155g tank, but I don't expect for them to form a pair relationship for a long time. I have very little hope of these emperors tolerating each other in a 65g.
