Very cool! I'm new to this forum, I've got two Maroon striped clowns and 4 true perculas in a 220 gallon tank. They were separated in two different 75 gallon tanks for about a year until just recently.

I got the percula clowns as babies hoping that a mated pair would come out of it. No eggs, but the maroons are found of each other and the perculas, well one looks like a baby still, and the other three are at least 2 "

Do you have any suggestions on providing the proper environment for the clowns?

Dropped 30 fish off to the store tonight.

We talked a little bit more about compensation tonight. We agreed on $8.00 cash or $10.00 store credit. Seems fair to me! So far I have $420.00 in store credit :D

Had the previous 30 lived it would have been up to $720.00 :(

With my new 120 pretty much empty I think I will be able to spend it :D

I took the 30 out of the tank and still have probably 30 more from the same batch.

I have about 250 more about 4 months and about another 200-250 at about 3 months. After that I'm pretty thin.

Cool FB. I'm glad things are going well. Store credit is awesome :) That way the wife can't make you spend it on stupid stuff like heat / hydro / food and crap like that. hehe.

Walk in there, buy whatever corals you want, not spend a dime, and not have to explain to wife later what a rare find you stumbled on

FB- I envy you! LOL Wish I had your deal! BTW, do you have pics of all your cool setups, breeding and growout areas? Would love to see the process... Ahhh...how about a "virtual tour" on YouTube! :)

I'd be embarrased to show you my "GHETTO" setup. It's nothing special and my basement is an absolute mess. OK maybe I will take some pics for you all.

I'm hoping to get a "Real" system setup on Sunday.

I have these two videos. They were taken mid August. You can see much of a bacteria bloom

My current setup is pretty simple.

I currently have the following

1 - 5 Gallon tank with about 15 clowns just going through meta
- This tank has just a heater and bubbler
1 - 5 Gallon tank with about 10 clowns about 3 weeks old
- This tank has just a heater and bubbler
1 - 10 Gallon tank with about 250 clowns @ about 4-5 months.
- This tank has a heater and a Marineland Penguin 100B Power Filter
1 - 10 Gallon tank with about 250 clowns @ about 3-4 months.
- This tank has a heater and a Rio Nano Skimmer. I don't really use it as a skimmer though.
1 - 10 Gallon tank with about 30 clowns @ about 5-6 months
- This tank was bought as a kit so it has lights, lid, power filter, and a heater. This tank also has a SSB in it which keep the nitrates down.
1 - 10 Gallon tank with 2 mated GSM's. - Far to small to get them to spawn I believe
- This tank has a power filter and a heater. This tank also has about 400 glass anemone's in it that came on the clay pot the guy gave me with the clowns.
1 - 10 Gallon tank rotifer culture. This tank has been doing really well and has a sponge filter in it to keep ammonia down. I have not noticed any negative effects on the rotifers.

My breeding pair of occelaris are in my 120 display. I also have another mated pair of occelaris in the return section of my sump on my 120.

That's all.

I just read over on MOFIB that increasing the time to META can decreased the number of mis-bars. It was discussed that reducing the temp in the tank slowed the clowns growth down. I can see how this could be possible. When the water is warmer they are growing so fast they get ahead of themselves and the bars don't form correctly.

Come to think of it in the spring when my basement was cooler I was getting way less (NONE) mis-bars than I am now. My next batch I am going to try and reduce the temp on the tank and see what happens.

BTW, nice videos and setup! Those little critters are adorable! I could only hope to see that in my tank!

Thanks .... with some patience you can get there!

Cashed in some of my store credit today. Picked up a really nice powder blue tang and a pretty large but very brown acro.

Both are now in my 120. The fish is eating well and the acro has some great polyp extension.

Clowns laid a very nice batch of eggs tonight. Looks pretty large to me I will have to do an egg count before they hatch next Sunday.

Most recent batch is at Day 9. With maybe only 8 or 9 after my dismal hatch.

With this batch I did rotifers for days 1-8.
BBS for days 6-8
Otohime A for days 4 - current.

They are all on Otohime A now and many have two full stripes already. One still has no stripes.

I'm pretty happy with the Oto but am running out of B2 pretty fast.

Ya I'm burning through it too. I think we could get away with B1. I think its plenty small enough. Its a bit cheaper than A.

Thanks for a very engaging thread- keeping me on the edge of my seat.

You are one busy guy! (and will soon be busier!). Congratulations on some great detective work, and sharing the trials and tribulations with all of us.

My general questions is on the breeding patterns in nature. I know your breeders are healthy- you have been taking good care of them... but it's only one pair spawning every 2 weeks- how long can they go on like that, and stay healthy? Does the egg quality change after time?

Also, are you doing anything to encourage your GSMs? Raising temp, extra feeding, etc?

Thanks again...

"In the breeding industry are mis-bars a good thing or a bad thing?"

It really depends on the market it seems. In the past misbars have been a bad thing. Now alot of people prefer them. Especially a really strange looking misbar. Still more people prefer full bars. Misbars are a sign of bad water quality / food.
